CVA Optima elk loads

I made the decision to buy an Optima over and Accura.

I am hunting Colorado elk in just over a month and wanted some opinions on your accurate loads. I plan on shooting BH209 with the BH plug. Ideally, I'd like to be sighted in for any shots up to 100 yards. Hopefully with your help I can get sighted in sooner than later!

Thus, any help would be appreciated!

Theory is it protects the lead from melting from the blast and somehow increases accuracy. My gun is more accurate with a wad under a big hunk of lead.

So, doesn't sound like FPBs are much of an option in a CVA due to size.

Here are the choices I would look at:

No excuses 460 gr. They will knock the snot out of an elk. And at ranges up to 150 yards (in Colorado with open sights, that is about max for most) there is not that much drop.

300 gr Thor bullets. Will require time to get the sizing kit and figure out what size bullet you need, but they are tough bullets and usually fly well. Expensive though because they are pure copper.

385 gr Hornady Great plains. Cheapest out there but have a good track record. On sale right now at Cabelas. Pretty darn good bullet if they fly well in your rifle.

405 gr aerotip powerbelts. My last choice and the softest bullet of the group, but if you don't push it hard and use the 405 gr bullet you should be all right. About 90 gr of BH would be about right.

Used to use Maxiballs, and they are a decent bullet, but got tired of all the lube on them melting
