Would any of you know of a wholesale or retail business that I could purchase a box of CCI Magnum 209 primers from? Would purchase a box of 100 of the Federal 209 magnum primers. Black Horn powder requires the hottest 209 primer available and I read on MM that these two were the hottest. I need to purchase a box of hot 209 primers. I cannot find either locally. Cow Tag

Problem with buying online is that you have to pay a hazmat shipping fee of like $20 per order. I waited a long time, but finally found them at my local cabelas about a month ago. Where are you located?

What gun is this for? Do you have a factory breechplug in it? You may be eligible to use the mid-level Winchester 209s, which are easier to find. Plus the Winchesters are a wee-bit longer, cut back on blowback and easier to extract.

I have a TC Encore in .50. It has the factory breech plug. I read a while back on MM that a shooter could use the Winchester regular 209 shotgun primers for Black Horn. I am wondering if the Winchesters perform as well as the CCI or the Federal magnum? I can purchase the regular shotgun primers made by Winchester locally....I live in deep south Illinois near Paducah, KY. thanks for your comment.

You don't need a magnum primer. the federl primers are just fine.

Muzz, do you mean the regular Federal 209 shotgun primers? Maybe their regular primers are the hottest of all of the 209 primers? On a list here on MM a while back, the Federal magnum primers were rated MOST HOT. Cow Tag

I also was thinking I needed the mag primers, but after talking with a lot of guys shooting bh209 they said that all I need is a federal 209 primer, the magnum primer is as they put it a myth. Will see. I'm going to shoot mine for the first time here in a couple days.

I believe Muzz is mistaken. The Federal 209A is the hottest primer available right now, followed by the CCI-Mag.

The Winchester 209s are fine for your T/C Encore with Blackhorn. I own a T/C Omega. Any of the top-5 I listed below will work fine. I never used the Cheddites thou. With those, I'm going by what other members say.

FED 209A
CCI 209M
FIOCCHI 616
CHEDDITE 209
WIN 209

CCI 209
REM 209

I have shot almost an entire 10 oz container of Blackhorn in a Knight rifle using Win 209 shotshell primers. When everything is correct it fires everytime.
I have had problems with to loose of a projectile/bullet but never a failure due to using non-magnum primers. I do have a box of the CCI 209 magnums but have not had reason to try them so far.

Just be sure you get the regular Winchester primers, NOT the Winchester 777 primers.

I don't know about mistaken but I was told that you don't need magnum primers. I just bought a blue box of federal 209 shotshell primers.

The federal 209a is a magnum primer. I have tried both federal 209a and cci 209 mag and i felt the cci's gave me slightly better accuracy and less blow back in my gun. So i have used those. I also tried a few other primers. With any less hotter primers i could only fry my gun 4 to 5 times before i would have miss fires. With the cci mags and fed 209a i fried over 10 shots without ever having a miss fire without clean the breech. I would just assume use the hotter primers and never have to worry about the gun going off in cold weather.

I have 1000 of the federal 209A primers if interested send me a pm and we can figure out how to get you a couple hundred.

Im still learning the muzzleload stuff. I wasn't aware the fed 209a were magnum primers. My mistake.

Kentucky, I would purchase a couple boxes of the CCI's if I could find them. I live near Paducah, KY. Do you know where I could purchase the CCI magnum 209 primer at? Cow Tag
