Barnes TMZ 250 vs 290

I shoot a Knight muzzleloader and just started using BH209. I want to try the TMZ's. However, I want some tips on which one to try first. I don't want to have to try both if I don't have to. They are quite pricey$$$. Which bullet is likely to give me the best accuracy out to 200 yards. A friend gave me a Barnes TEZ to try, but it seemed a bit too easy to push down my bore. My bore diameter is .5015 - .5020. I have heard that BH209 needs a fairly tight seal to be at its best. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks.

I've only shot the 250 grain version of both the TEZ with Barnes sabots and TMZ with crush rib sabots. Both shot amazingly well. I got slightly better accuracy with the TMZs inside a crush rib sabot. TEZs shot about moa at 100 yds. TMZs shot sub-moa at 100 yards. TEZ really thumps deer. I have not shot any game with the TMZ but I'm sure will offer great terminal performance. The 290 grain version of both have a higher BC and will 'hit harder' at extended range. I shoot a CVA Accura. Ultimately you'll have to shoot and see which bullet shoots best in your gun. Good luck.

My son shot an AZ bull and a CA buck with the 290 TMZ last year and had great performance on both animals. However, we don't shoot BH209 in that Knight disk extreme. We shoot 130 Grains of Pyrodex pellets, a30 grain ans 2-50 grain pellets. Great accuracy, velocity and penetration.

For clarification, he gave me a TEZ to try just to see how much of a snug fit it is in my barrel. After determining that it is a bit too loose, I bought the TMZ's. It is my understanding that TMZ's perform best in bores with a full 50 caliber (diameter .502). The TEZ's do best in tight-bore guns like the Thompson Centers.

I think I will start with the 290's. If I can't get good results, then I will open the 250's. If I fail there, then I will be looking for other options.

Thanks for the info everyone.
