FrontierGander? Accura V2 vs. MR

He seems to know what he is talking about.

I am leaning towards one of these rifles, but I have some questions:

1. I really like the size (weight) and look of the MR. How much am I giving up in regards to ballistics if I go with the shorter barrel of the MR? I need to be able to shoot out to 200 yards comfortably.

2. I really like my Harris bipod. I know the existing studs are located so that a bipod will not work with either rifle. Is there room to add a stud? Is the V2 a better candidate for adding a stud than the MR for shape-of-stock reasons?

3. I know the MR does not come with sights. Is it even tapped for sights, so they could be added later?

4. How much of a step up is the Accura above the Optima?

I appreciate any info that anyone can give.

The Accura V2 would be the easiest to install a steel sling stud up front. It has a nice flat forearm where as the MR has that funky curve up front. I actually installed a steel stud on my wolf years ago and its held up perfect.

The MR is NOT drilled for open sights simply because the stock design is made strictly for scope use. So NO, open sights still can not be added to the MR due to the high cheek comb stock.

If open sight shooting is something you plan on doing, the Accura V2 is the best way to go as they are drilled/tapped for open sights.

As for the 25" VS 27" I doubt you'll lose/gain more than 30-45 FPS. Very little difference and not something you'd notice even out to 200 yards.

Trigger department, the V2 has a 1/2lb lighter trigger and its adjustable.

Even the Optima though is a hell of a rifle. Its actually my favorite with thumb hole set up. But again, the optima thumb hole is set up for scope use only where the V2 thumb hole can be used with both a scope and open sights.

I think the Accura V2 would be your best bet for a solid hunting rifle.

Well, after lots more research and weighing out the pros and cons, I ended up getting the Accura MR. Sure will be nice for packing into the back country.

I will re-post after I try it out.

I am still waiting to draw a ML tag in NM, but I am set on a TH stock from the Accuras. It just shoulders really well.

However, in talking with a sales rep from CVA, I am optimistic that they will offer the TH stock on the MR next year. I love Max-1 camo and that would be perfect. Otherwise I will try to find a LR TH stock and swap it on a MR if it is possible.
