Going through my dads gun cabinet and found a container of "Black Canyon Powder" , it has to be 20+ years old. Is this dumpster material?

No! get a pipe with some..... never mind. haha

Hey Serve, I've been conditioned to rotate real black powder very regularly because it absorbs moisture or becomes less stable.

I'm a rookie at the sport of front-stuffing yet I worked in a sporting goods store for 20 years selling the stuff so I can only parrot what I've heard.

Dump it on the concrete in a long thin line and spray it with water or sprinkle it on your lawn but don't just dumpster it! The next guy who runs into it might be in trouble!

Though I had never heard of it, a quick search tells me that it is a "substitute" for real black powder and that it wasn't especially popular. Some users stated decent success using it in black powder cartridges like the 45/70.
From what I read I wouldn't use it in any of my muzzleloaders. Much better alternatives are available.

It didn't even cross my mind that it would be a substitute. I ASSumed it was real BP. Good catch graysage!

I still wouldn't use it.
