Ok so I got my new inline 3x9 bdc scope put on today. Updated to take advantage of the new Utah law. I am shooting a CVA Optima 50 caliber. Nikon says their scope is calibrated for a 250 grain aero-dynamic bullet w/ 150 grains of powder. I have been shooting 245 grain power belts with two Pyrodex pellets. That's the load the rifle likes. I tried 150 grains of powder or 3 pellets using a sabot , not power belts it wasn't shooting well . I have never used my chronograph on a muzzle loader. But I guess I am going to have to now. My old boy drew his forth choice muzzle loader deer. I have not hunted with my smoke pole for a few years. I hear of guys talk about these newer black powders. Are they really that much better ? Just cleaner or faster ? Well get me up to date . I need to get this thing sighted in with a rifle scope on it now. Or I guess with a inline scope. I started muzzle loading with a 50 caliber Hawkins rifle shooting round balls. I still have that old Hawkins rifle of course. My second oldest son shot his first deer with it at 115 yards. Times change !!! Do I still shoot my Pyrodex pellets with my power belt bullets ????? It's a lot cleaner then the triple 777 I used before. ???

JUDAS BIGJOHN!

Throw Both of them Powders away & Get Some real Powder!

Start around 80 Grains of BH209 & Go up or down a little from there!

You'll Feel the Punch to the Shoulder with the BH209!

Ok guys blackthorn 209. I am guessing from what you said it is hotter my pellets. So only load 80 grains. Measured in my black powder measure. I am not stuck on any bullet. That's what's in my black powder box. ? Maybe I should try the Barnes. Since I am a Barnes kind of guy. So Blackhorn 209 is the bomb?

We Shot 5 Different Guns last summer & Run 800.00+ of Misc Loads through them!

85-110 Grains of Powder!

The BH209 has Good Stomp!

A Guy at the BH209 Factory told me for NO REASON do You Load any SmokePole with any more than 140 Grains of BH209!

Initially we did Load a New Remington Ultimate up with 200 Grains/4 Pellets of Triple777!

WAFJ that was!

Throwin Bullets everywhere!

Crud Ring in one shot!

A Kickin SOB on top of that!

Try the hornady 250 grain SST sabot with a charge of blackhorn or two of the triple 7 magnum pellets (red box) in that optima.

Omega ML 95 gr BH 209 and it shoots the 240 sabot and 295 gr sabot pretty dang good. the 240 are pretty much right on the BDC cross hairs and the 295 hit low as in 6" at 200 yds 13" at 300 yds. The 240's groups a little better then the 295's too. Tried the 209 in high amounts and it didn't do any group better then the 95 gr charged did. So I'm staying with want is working for me in that Omega.
I use old Const. plans(36"x 48") to get me where I can see where they are hitting really hitting.

Thanks Gator ! When you are saying BDC cross hairs. Does this mean you are using the same Nikon inline scope? Which 240 grain sabot are you using? Great load data ,thank you!

50 cal sabot 45 cal 240 gr Harvester funnel point mag 12 to a pack(scorpion) from either midsouth or midway. they have some nice quick load powder single shot powder carriers.
shoot me a cell# and I will sent you pictures of the groups I'm getting right now. Last week my Gunny took it home and got the trigger pull down to 2.3 lbs and WOW it has a sweet pull now. Ringing the gong(8") at 200 with good grouping and hitting the steel plate(16") at 300 yds most are in the center but a few are flyers hitting the out side of the zone that like . BH 209 is tough to beat in this gun.
