Hello I am a new member and want to post my muzzleloader that hopefully I will be taking a deer the end of this month.

It is a Steven 200 action (same as a savage SA) with a custom smokeless 28" .458 brux barrel smokeless barrel and custom 209 plug. It is smokeless capable but I am shooting 95gr by weight of bh209 under a 344gr Bomb.

I size my bullets to fit the barrel without a sabot.

My load produces 2230 fps with this load and bullet has a BC is .40 at my velocity.

The action is in my xlr chassis which I typically have my long range rifle in but it fits both and I am use to it. The vortex viper (cheaper 2.5-10x44) would not hold my recoil so my Nightforce shv 4-14x50 got thrown on it for this year. It also has a radial brake but its not in the picture because it would be break the chrony attached.

100 yard group from clean bore then 3 consecutive shoots. As the gun fouls it moves poi left.

Wow!
That makes my Remington Ultimate look like a Ford Fairlane at the drag strip!
OH well, I can't have it all. Where would I put it?

Take away the scope and put it back in the Stevens stock and its only a $900 build ;-)

Cheaper if I didn't have to have a 28" barrel with a brake.

Very nice gun, but to the life of me I can't see why they have a special muzzleloader hunt. I too muzzle load, but that gun should drive tacks at a long distance. The DWR should just give a Boy Scout Badge for those who shoot a deer with a ML and forget the special deer hunt. The guns just keep getting better and better.

I think we should have a separate traditional season here in Utah. Open ignition and sabotless but I do not make the rules.

I forsee many weekenders wounding deer/elk this year by trying to shoot farther than they can or their bullet can preform because they think their muzzleloaders are like rifles since they have scopes.

Luckily, if they miss the first time they cannot just keep sending lead down range.

I enjoy long range hunting (and close archery) and the rifle season is always crowd and opens on a Saturday. I was building this with an adjustable peep then mid build they changed the law to scopes.

If wind is decent tomorrow, I am going to stretch her to 725 if I can get on steel to validate my drop.

As well as some practice out between 200 and 425.

Lots of practice and now ready for the season. A few adjustments today and got this group.

Then stretched it to 314 (was suppose to be 3 shots but forgot to dial 6 moa on the scope). A little gust this evening.

That should get it done. Now I just need to find a deer come next Wednesday.

Am I understanding this correctly ..? If between a 100 Yd Zero and a 307 Yd zero is 6 clicks, you have a wonderful system.

I am seldom impressed but you seem to be doing what is needed, such being, Practice, Practice and more ENDLESS Practice.

Jagerdad :)

That was 314 yd and my dope called 6.63 and I dialed 6.5 moa referring to my notes. Wind - held 1 moa right for a full value 3 mph wind. Bullet is 344gr with a BC of .38 at 2350 FPS. I verified BC at 720ish.

It does take one bh209 fouler and holds accuracy to around 5 shoots but next spring I will work in clean bore accuracy since my gun is sitting with bh209 in it for the Utah mule deer hunt which I do not like.

Hoping to see bullets performance on game in the morning. Coyote chased some deer that I had at 250 yd and ready to pull the trigger on 150-160" class buck.

Ended up settling for a 2x2 today to end my muzzleloader deer hunt. Not my target but first mule deer tag and heading back to work tomorrow, so he will do.

Shot at 250 yards quarting away bullet entered back rib and lead mushroom found in opposite shoulder. I did not look for copper jacket but should be in the chest cavity somewhere (gutless method for pack out).
