Just a Word of Warning!

Keep an Eye on the Lag/Lags that Hold the Swivels/Sling on!

Upper Lag Back Clear out somehow & Dumped Her in the Rocks!

This Year I Was Sneaking across some Slide Rock to Sneak in on some Bucks!

All of a Sudden My POS Remington Hit the Rocks in a Hurry & I'm Like WTH?

She Hit Hard!

I Gathered it Up & I'm Thinking I've surely Knocked the POS 1X Vortex Scope Way Off!

Got back to Camp Mid-Day & Capped a couple off!

She's Still on!

Just not as Perty as She Used to be!:D

Keep an Eye on em Guys!

1st Time I'd ever had that happen!

You just made a great Vortex advertisement. Send them a bill! Offset the damages.

I had a few come real loss and JB Welded them in place. No more movement.

LAST EDITED ON Oct-13-16 AT 07:07AM (MST)[p]Elk, I had something like that happen too.
I was just leaving camp just before light and my sling came undone at the top and the gun fell over backwards, the ram rod hit a rock and bent it at a 45 degree angle.
I tried to straighten it back out and it snapped in half.
Not good when your several miles in the backcountry.

I had some tape in my pack and taped the two ends together.

Oh wait Bess!

I was about to post a warning about the front swivel stud on the POS. I see I'm too late to help you and you beat me to posting about it.

On mine, I noticed the front stud was loose after my hunt. I thought I'd throw a little loctite on it but when I removed it, I discovered it's a stubby little cheap-azz wood screw stud!

I inletted a swivel nut inside the forend to flush with the ramrod track and used a swivel stud with machine threads. I glass bedded the whole thing. Problem solved but come on Remington, that's a big damn deal on a heavy rifle and such an cheap and easy fix to do it right the first time!

I'm starting to think deadibob is onto something here....well, not really but I try to placate him sometimes! haha

Fix 'em boys or pay the price!

Bess I'll put some athletic tape on my because I don't trust that front swivel. Not pretty but it's effective.

Hey deerlove,

Is it your swivel or is it the stud that you don't trust?

I still don't trust the swivel since it seems the "lock" feature is always coming unscrewed so I always wrap a couple wraps of electricians tape around it. (I trusted the factory stud but I was wrong to do so. NOW I can trust the stud since I fixed it)

If you don't trust the stud then it MUST be fixed unless you're content with it the way it is! I'm willing to help if you want to fix/replace it.

Man, I hate to hear about dropped rifles and I came (-) that close to doing it. By luck I caught it in time.

Sorry Zeke just missed your post, I don't trust the stud. I'm hard on every thing, I've replaced my parts to my snipod three times. Any suggestions on that?? ie different rest options.

The front stud needs to be replaced with the machine thread and round nut type swivel stud. Care must be taken to inlett or counter drill the nut deep enough and trim off the stud screw so the ramrod still operates in the slot.
I also replaced the rear with a longer wood thread type since the original is a shorty too.

Let me know if you need further instructions or help.

25 years ago, same thing happened to me.
Difference was I was coming down off the mountain, stopped at a sharp spur on the center of the north south side of the spur.
Pines to the north and clear site to the south across the draw standing on a rock outcroping.
Stopping looking listening suddenly my rifle is off my shoulder and the loud bang of steel on rock.
My dad's M70 300 win mag is laying on the rocks.
Same thing front sling came of the stock.
I now check every rifle I carry every morning and throughout the day every time I stop and start a walk.
Lesson learned!!

I forget the name, the swivels on the claw sling, hush quiet? They like to come undone as well. Check em all multiple times a day. Then lok-tite em!
