Maxi ball

Do I need a wad with a 370gr maxi ball in my .50? How my grains if powder would I load for elk I'm thinking 110 but not sure any advise is appreciated

Yes a over powder wad is probably going to help a lot. As for powder I would start with 80 grains and work up. Personally I use 80 grains of Pyrodex P with a 460 gr bullet. I have NO trouble knocking game down.

Absolutely a pad if you load hot. What can happen is the base of the Maxi(because it is lead) can become deformed upon full ignition, so when exiting, it will veer off. I like using a plastic wad. I do this by cutting the petals of a Sabot off and using the base of the Sabot as my wad. The plastic wad also helps tremendously in getting a perfect exit everytime. I have been able to increase my load up to 100 grains of Triple 7 with great results. Triple 7 is about 10% hotter than Pyrodex or Black Powder.
