3800 fps and 36lb would be a little much for use in hunting mountainous terrian. Would be fun in the east over looking big ago fields though on a bench.
Think I a happy with a 344 gr bullet at 2300 FPS with bh209. Can get to 2600 to 2700 fps with 344 and h322 and too much recoil for my liking out of a 14 tob15 lb gun.

For hunting applications here in the West I can't think of a use either.
I didn't think it was possible to get a 45 caliber bullet moving that fast. I shoot about 2000 feet per second slower and use a 300 grain bullet. It seems to work just fine. I like a little smoke after I pull the trigger, call me old fashioned.
The guy seems to have the smokeless thing figured out. Pretty impressive for a front stuffer.

Pretty impressive and interesting but I was somewhat confused since it looked like he was "pitching" it but then went on to say "kids, don't try this at home".
Most guys know way more than me but I don't think that would be legal during Utah's front-stuffer season with smokeless powder!
I can just see myself lugging a 30#+ rifle up the ridge for elk on the general season hunt but it possibly has as application for some guys I suppose.
It's like the hot-rodders or wildcatters in that we might not be one but can benefit from the testing an knowledge at some future point.

black powder or substitute only in Utah and most of west (why I use bh209 in my smokeless build). In many states in the east, they only specify front stuffer and in shotgun only states sml are very popular.
My father in law has the factory savage 50 cal that is made for sml powder straight from the factory.
Also good to note that a sub cal under .45 is legal in utah as long as you use a heavy enough bullet (forget weight off the top my head for elk and deer). I have seen some .416 custom mz shooting heavies and bh209 that are incredible for a hunting round.
