Not finding an reasonable way to get pyrodex RS for upcoming hunt. Flying in from Ohio. Hoping to find a local willing to give me some for 5X its normal cost!

Nearest store in 4 hours round trip in good weather. It will be mid Dec.....

I think one of the local shops carries it, I'll check and let you know, if not, I can pick some up before you get here. Finally starting to see a few elk on the refuge.

I have checked with every store and no go, same last year, I would be happy to pay you triple! Will cost me $50 to mail it there (then need to find someone to hold it for me). Could try ship to post office to hold but when ordering need to trust cabelas to get that right on the shipping label...........

Please shoot me an email [email protected]

Frustrating, last year I gave away my powder last night to some ML hunters, they were happy(and his girlfriend was cute!).

Heading back in Jan to help a buddy for cow elk so need it again then, will try to stash somewhere in between.

Closest place was Idaho falls!

Funny story, I am an avid planner and very organized. Jackson has 2-3 sporting goods stores and a super Kmart. NEVER occured to me no one would have pyrodex. Go to first store, jsut like back home tons of gear ammo etc. Not finding pyrodex. Getting nervous. Someone comes to help and say they never carry it and they have a regular customer that ML hunts and drives to Idaho Falls to get it! Yikes.

Next call Kmart, none, guy says sporting goods manager ML hunts and drives to Idaho Falls to get it.....

Double yikes.

A couple more calls and store visits with same exact response. Now I know I am in trouble. Snowing, roads bad and one way is 2 hours in good conditions.....

Sitting in hotel room while I went online trying to find a local and raking my brain, buddy is calling butchers to get info in case we tag out early. On phone he says I should ask this guy if he hunts and has some, I am like yah right. I am busy with calls. When he and I am are done he looks at me and says "The butcher said he is going to Idaho Falls tonight for a Christmas party and will be back tomorrow morning, he can stop at Cabelas and get you some"

I am sure he is kidding with me but he was not! What are the odds??????

He was and middle of next day we stopped and I gave $50 and got the can!

Thermos, good idea, I keep thinking about trying something BUT if get caught................

I think I would have a little trouble making up a story!

Stone drug in Jackson has pyrodex rs and p loose, and triple 7 pellets in stock (3 cans of each as if today). No primers, and limited bullets (a few power belts). I'll give you a call after the holiday sometime.

Don: I've actually done a similar thing on several out of state trip with my ML. I just call the store that has what I need, pay for it with my credit card, and they label it "SOLD-Hold for JCB". Pick it up when I arrive, and I know it is going to be there.

Thanks Sam! I will be calling them I would have never thought to check a drug store!

Blank issue is no on with a 5 hour roundtrip drive from Jackson WY (where I am flying into) carries it. Well or so I though!

In AZ hunting elk right now and havecrappy phone service. I think I have an unopened pound of RS on my bench. Let me get home 12/2 or 3 and I'll let you know. I live in Idaho falls and can get it to you easy

I did look on the bench today, and the jug I have has been opened and is about 1/3 full. Sorry.

I did not take any last year, tried to get done butchering before my buddy arrived with sled. I did (quickly) and turned gun etc over to him to hunt on limited range area while I pulled elk out. I spent 75% of that hunt helping him not hunting myself.

I love it on the south end.

To bad so many 'Tourist Hunters' don't know the western boundary---is the creek.

Good eats right there.
