I am looking to put a scope on my muzzy. I like the Leupold Ultimate Slam scope, but dont know anything about it. Does anyone have any experience with this scope? Any recommendations on another scope to look into?? One thing I am looking for is the scope to come in stainless/silver to match my gun. I really dont think I need anything bigger than a 3x9 for a muzzy. Not looking to set any long range records. haha. Let me know your thoughts. Thanks in advance.

vortex diamondback (best deal in my opinion)

Leupold vx1 (guessing that the ultimate slam is a vx1) I have a vx1 3-9 with a CDS in moa that I have used on my smokeless) Leupold has become a brand that people just buy especially hunters and I do not think there price matches quality anymore.

Sig whiskey

Those are the 3 I would look at.

I have Nightforce shv 4-14x50 (probably too much $ for most muzzleloaders) on mine and the only above that I have not used with heavy recoil guns is the sig, but reports are good and it have covered turrets. Probably next scope I will pick up.

LAST EDITED ON Dec-28-16 AT 07:10AM (MST)[p]How far are you looking to shoot? I have the Ultimate Slam on my shotgun and occasionally move it to my Muzzy for states that allow scopes or for load testing. It takes a little tinkering to be able to use the reticle appropriately. You have to know your muzzle velocity. It's a 2nd focal plane scope so your mag setting will determine the yardage that the reticle will correspond to. At longer distances, the dots for 200+ yds are too big IMO as they obscure the target. I don't generally shoot my shotgun at those distances so it's not that big of a deal but if you're planning to make your muzzy a long-range gun, you may want to consider a scope with a more distance-friendly reticle. If you're only planning to shoot up to 100 yds, the reticle on the Ultimate Slam is too "busy" and you'd probably be just as well off with a good scope with a single cross-hair.

Thanks Guys. I will look into all the mentioned scopes above. What I am really looking for is a scope that I can zero at 100 yards and use a reticle at 200 yards. I dont think I would stretch any shots on an animal much past that. I should be in the running for a muzzy Pauns tag this year and I want to be prepared the best I can.

Thanks ElkTaker. I really like Vortex Optics and will probably end up going that route. I just wish they made a silver/stainless option. My muzzy is a TC Pro Hunter in camo stock and stainless barrel. I know functionality should outweigh looks, but I am afraid the black scope might throw the look off. thoughts??

Cabelas has a 3x9 ML scope that works for me out to 300 yds with the crosshair lines built in to it. I sight in 4" high at 100yd hits just a few inches low at 200 and at 300 yds that line is dead on.
