This is my first Muzzy. I've actually never shot in before but I'm going dedicated for deer next year and want to be ready. Should I stick with IMR white hot or go with black horn?

Any pet loads I should try? I have friends who were preaching how much better the Remington Ultimate is but I'm not giving Remington any of my money.

I put a Leupold vx2 4x12x40 on it because Cabelas were selling them for $250.

What are realistic ranges with this gun? What are some tricks and advice?

Thanks.

Good choice,,,,, i went to BH209 this year in my accura,, its as good as all the hype,, i started with 90 grs. down the tube, stuffed a power belt to the bottom ,bingo.. cranked it up to 100 grs. and stopped there , 3 inch group at 200 yards,, super easy to clean and no crud ring, never a hang or miss fire, i think you made the right choice

Aren?t you supposed to get a different breach or something if you go the BH route?

Ok, I've got the blackhorn 209 and the breach I need. Also have the 209 primers. I got some Hornady sst 250grain billets.

Should I see how the 300s fly? What I'm assuming the 250s will be faster but won't hit as hard when they get there?

I have the accura V2. I have had really good luck using 110 grain BH 209, with a 290 gr. Barnes TEZ. Also make sure you are using a shotgun primer. Hope that helps.

Ya. I got the cci 209 magnum shotgun primers. What's the best way to measure and keep the Bullets in the field? Those viles that hold the powder in one end and bullet in the other?

Are 250 grain Bullets too small?

Any tips on break in procedures?

Thanks for all the help. This is all new to me.

250 gr bullets are plenty big for deer. I would see how they shoot and if you are lucky and they shoot well, you might be good to go. As to how those particular bullets do once they hit a deer, I can't help you as I have never used them. But if they hold together, they are plenty big.

I would probably use 200 yards as a maximum for at least your first year. Don't even go out past 100 until you feel real comfortable with loading, shooting, etc. And you will have to compensate for the drop. Even at 3 inches high at 100, you will hit pretty low beyond 150.

If these bullets don't shoot well, don't be afraid to shoot 290 or 300 gr bullets. They will fly almost as flat as the 250s and have a better ballistic coefficient.

Has anyone shot that cooper muzzleloader? Can it reach out to the distances of the Remington UL?

I know the 250 grain barnes tmz or tez bullets shoot great with awesome performance on mule deer and elk

LAST EDITED ON Nov-30-17 AT 05:09PM (MST)[p]I'm shooting 100 gr. by volume BH209,(w/BH breach plug) 290 gr Barnes TEZ, and CCI magnum primers out of my Accura V2. Its deadly accurate and the best muzzy ive personally owned. Good luck and congrats on your purchase.

Elk Assassin, I have a CVA Accura V2 M.L. rifle. Use Black Horn powder and the hot CCI or the Federal 209-A primer. Should I be using an "O" ring on these primers? I have not noticed any blow back when the weapon fires. If I should be using an O ring, what type, brand name, size, composition, or anything else should I be using? any and all advice is appreciated. Cow Tag

I shoot a CVA Acura 2 using 110gr by volume 77gr by weight of BH 209 using Barnes 250gr T-EZ (flat-base) using fiocchi primers. There has been quit a few articles published on this load and I had great luck with accuracy (5 shot 1.25? group at 100 yards with open sights). I truly believe I could make them touch with a scope. I only thing that I'm not totally sold on are the reliability of the fiocchi primers, I've had a few non-fires with them, but according to the literature they are the key to the load because they don't push the bullet forward like other ?hotter? primers but still are hot enough for the BH209.
