No Excuse sent me some bullets to try out in this custom under hammer .45cal. This is actually a 4570 barrel that someone turned into a muzzleloader bench shooter. Just slightly under 14lbs and has a 1:22 twist.

Recoil was certainly increased over the patched round balls I had been shooting.

60gr pyrodex P
460gr No Excuse .451 conicals
100 yards, no swabbing.

After these shots, I adjusted 7" up and to the left a bit. Got to clean the bore out and then try it again.

Sounds like they'll have some 600 Grain Bullets in .50 Caliber out before long!

It Won't Be Long and a 22" PISSCUTTER will be known as a Trophy that will be put on the Wall!

I'm hoping that we'll have two new additions to the 50 caliber line-up in February. A 420 and a 600 grain bullet will be added to the existing 460 and 495 grain bullets in 50 caliber. Already starting to see some pre-orders on the 600s. Should be long range hammers!

Expansion issues (using 460s) were commonly expressed on some popular muzzleloader discussion boards of three or more years ago. Not sure if composition changes have been made since-then. Powder charges used back-then were commonly below magnum powder charges.... noted as low as 60 grains and upwards of 100 grains (ouch).
Also, because of it's large size 460, it's not considered a user friendly bullet with ever-most popular Blackhorn 209 powder-users.

I probably gave away 70 remaining 460s I once had from purchases made between 10-15 years ago. If this bullet now routinely / consistently expands, then it would be an awesome bullet to purchase.

If anyone has any recent bullet pic-tests they would like to share here, that would be great. I love lead bullets, over-that of copper, which generally run 2-3X the money per bullet. If users like two holes in their deer and don;t mind if both the entrance & exit holes are the same size - often leaving massive blood loss, then this is the conical bullet for you.

i have hunted exclusively with no excuses bullets since i started hunting woth a smoke pole iv never recovered one but the entry and exit were never the same size either. i havent taken a ton of animals with them but iv taken 2 mule deer and a pronghorn with the 45 460, a mule deer and a pronghorn with the 41 410, and an elk and mule deer with the 50 495. i will be going to the 600s to test for a hopeful future moose hunt and any future elk hunts.

The NO EXCUSES were always Softer than the PP 600 Grain Bullets I Shoot!

With a 600 Grain Bullet & 50 Caliber it won't really matter if it Expands much!

But Yes!

We like to see some Expansion!

Recovering 600 Grain Bullets on Deer is Rare!

I can appreciate your lack of fondness for non-mushrooming bullets. I wouldn't shoot them either if they didn't mushroom. I can tell you we had a bad batch of lead 2-3 years ago where the lead supplier sent alloyed lead instead of pure lead. We had sold several cases before catching the problem. The rest of the stock was destroyed and we test every batch of lead we get now before casting to ensure that never happens again. The first alert we had was some complaints about the bad bullets loading hard, and then after they got them loaded they tumbled thru the target. Makes sense-hard bullets won't obturate(belly out)when they are shot, thus not engaging the rifling and not creating the seal necessary to make them shoot well. Hope this doesn't sound like excuses or a sales pitch. Just glad to have gotten the chance to explain what may have happened. I have included a few photos sent to me over the past couple years by sportsmen who have sucessfully harvested game using my bullets. Most say they have recovered the bullet on the far side of the animal next to the skin. A lot send photos of the game and no bullets, only having to describe the enormous wound channel on the opposite side.
