All you muzzy junkies,I have a ? I want some input on which round you all find to be the most precise in grouping, also best shooting out to 300 yards. PLEASE NO POWER BELT REPLIES HAHA.. Thank you!

Been Screwin With SmokePoles all My Life!

I've Seen Identical Guns not Like the Same Loads!

I'd of Gave you some Advice if it weren't for the POWER-BELT Remark!:D

It Ain't Easy being Me!:D:D:D

For sidelocks I use a PRB. For inlines I like the Barnes 290gr T-EZ. The powder is Goex/Swiss for sidelocks and BH 209 for inlines.

I guess first off what gun are you shooting? What is the twist of the barrel? That will make a big difference in what you can shoot accurately at medium long range.

I have had no problems getting the 300 gr SST in a Harvester sabot to shoot good to 300 yards with 1:28" twist and 120 gr by volume of BH209. Also the Ballistic Extreme bullets shoot very well with BH209 loads. Don't be using these on elk sized game as you run out of steam for elk about 225-250 yards with a 120 gr by volume load. For deer and antelope, you will be ok to 300 yards though. Also take a look at the 275 gr Match Hunters. Depending on the twist of your gun you may be able to shoot the 300 gr bullets.

Powerbelts, funny!

250 grain Barnes tmz. These are accurate and they expand well. They are tipped and boat tail base for good ballistic coefficient. I took a great bull in Utah at 290 yards with non magnified scope, with a Thompson center arms inline.

Hell of a shot. How much holdover?

Thanks for the input guys! Leaning towards an Ultimate. I drew a very good mule deer tag and am looking for something that travel as flat as possible for a muzzy. I won't be shooting over 300 yards. Probably a lot closer than that but want some good groups at that range!

Arrowhead Sporting Goods now offers a good breechplug and Large Rifle Magnum Primer (LRMP) modules to make the Rem UML a decent gun that shoots BH209. Parts and install adds $300 to the price tag but it lets you shoot heavy charges of BH209.

Got a 50 caliber and tired of paying $1.25 per bullet w/sabot, try this: purchase a box of 50, Hornady .452, 300 grain xtp Mag pistol bullets, then purchase a box of 50 ribbed harvester black sabots. You are now into this combo a total of $.54 per shot. Mine shot as good the the expense Spitz and other ML sabots and was a heck of a lot easier to load.

Yes, Dave makes a good bullet. I just ordered some of the new 420gr in .504. I want to try the tighter fit of the .504 that's new for this year.

Exactly what I do. The wife took her first deer last year at 212 yards with this setup. I have found that those crushed ribs will shoot every bullet I've tried accurately in my muzzys so far.

If you are looking to buy a new gun look into Bad to the Bone Muzzleloaders in Las Cruces. Those guys are doing some awesome work. Don't believe they have a website, but they are on Facebook. As far as bullets go, I agree with Muley. My T/C Encore Pro Hunter likes the 250 gr Barnes TMZ. The last load I worked up was only using 90 grains of Blackhorn 209 for Coues.

Yep, Russell is a good guy and puts out some nice guns.

I'm going to shoot the 250 grains barns! Does anyone have the guy from Las Cruces number? I don't have FB.

LAST EDITED ON May-09-18 AT 01:20PM (MST)[p]Barnes TMZ 290 for places that allow sabots, and Thor 300gr for places that require full bore (colorado) are the 2 I'm currently shooting. Both with blackhorn 209.
Parker match/hunter bullets are another option, supposedly very accurate.
One thought that will help precision is to weigh every charge, and place the powder in clear test tubes so you know exactly what charge you're shooting. This gives consistency better than volume measurements.
Also, don't use "muzzleloading" 209 primers for places that allow 209 primers. Use actual federal shotshell primers.

LAST EDITED ON May-09-18 AT 06:51PM (MST)[p]Most accurate I have shoot out to 300 yards (sub .5 moa in good wind) is the 270 Parker EMax sized for a 458 barrel with bh209. These are designed for smokeless velocity so past 300 I would try shoot any big game with bh209.

I hunt with a 344gr bullet made by Kentucky Performance LLC (bomb is what he calls them). At 2350 fps, a high BC and weight they are more accurate farther out. I have shoot them to 725 with BH209 with sub moa groups.

Best out of sabot that I have shoot is the 300 gr Parker BE and a 300 gr bomb.

I practice with 300 SST but hunt with the 344 bombs. Running a nightforce typically on my muzzleloader for my drop.

Last mule deer buck I shoot with the 344 bombs was 250 yards and preformed well.

LAST EDITED ON May-11-18 AT 08:55PM (MST)[p]thanks I did not catch the auto correction.

Great bullets. I have not shot his new solid bullet and do not plan to with the results I have had with his jacketed bullets.

Want to say thanks for all the help . Hope to show you a monster muley on the ground at the end of September.
