Could or Should I Leave A Load in my CVA Accura V2?

Need an opinion or advice concerning leaving BlackHorn powder in a CVA Accura V2 M.L. rifle. I killed a buck on Nov 16 (first day of IL deer season). I re-loaded and waited a spell before retrieving the buck. The second half of the IL season begins on Nov. 29 for four days. Could I leave the BlackHorn 209 powder and the hornady SST saboted bullet in the rifle or should I knocked out the load and completely clean the weapon and put in a fresh load on the opening day of the 2nd. season? I've heard that you do not have to swab out the barrel between shots or that you can leave the residue in the barrel for 30 days after you shoot.....has anyone left the weapon loaded (not a 209 primer inside of the breech plug of course) for an extended period of time (two weeks)? I may clean it right now to show room cleaniness but wanted to hear what some of you would advice or suggest. Cow Tag

Chances are good it will be OK. But, a better question is are you OK if it mis-fires? And then think about what could have been?

If it has been more than a day or two, I always unload mine before the next hunt. I'll swab it a few times, and clean it, just like it has had several shots, even if it was a one shot kill.

Yes, I have left a TEC Omega loaded (no primer) for 1.5 years with no issues due to a broken arm injury. I went to the range 1.5 years later and the gun shot just fine and put the bullet in a 1.5 MOA group with 4 freshly loaded rounds. I did not have any rust in the barrel either but my gun was stainless steel. YMMV depending on your ambient conditions.

I gave the Accura a good southern Illinois house cleaning tonight. No use in going looking for trouble. I followed Gray Sage's advice. Appreciate each of your opinions about my question. Cow Tag

I know what would happen if I didn't clean mine. The biggest deer this side of Texas would parade around and I'd misfire! There are plenty of ways to blow a shot or hunt. I like to avoid the one's I completely control! :D

Good luck and post pics!

Mine was loaded for deer season. Didn't unload it for the muzzleloader elk hunt. I think I will go and shoot it tomorrow. So I can clean it well and put it away for the year. I would think you would be okay Unless you got it wet or loaded it wet. Without popping a primer to dry it out before loading.

Testing & Checking My Accura!

It's Been Loaded with BH 209 for a year & 2 Months!

Gonna be checking for Corrosion!

I'm Perty Sure it'll Fire!

No,This is No way to Treat a Gun!

Personally, I always unload my Muzzleloader after the hunt is over (if I didn't get lucky). A few years back we hunted horse mountain for a week. I kept some tape on the muzzle, it started sprinkling on the third day and my buddy had tape too on his, and we had different results when we emptied the barrels....mine worked fine, his just went poof and the bullet hardly left the barrel. So I wouldn't take the chance as it doesn't take much moisture to neutralize the small amount of powder, or compromise it and cost you a buck or bull. Just my 2 cents.......
