I went out to one of my spots and some idiot had drivin their 4 wheeler all through the sage brush. I hate to see that. I though people were better than that. What is your veiws on riding over the sage brush? What do I do call the fish and game? Who ever it is get of your lazy butt and walk like the rest of us!!!!

I hate finding four-wheeler tracks in areas to, so I feel your frustrations.

Just keep your eyes on the lookout. Without witness/evidence towards someone, fish and game is really limited to what they could do. Too many wheeler tracks everywhere to just concentrate watching a particular area for a culprit.

I know what you mean I found the same thing this last Sunday way off the trail and guess what I found the two wheelers parked in some ceders. I never seen or talked to the guys but I wrote down the info on the state tags and turned it in. I didn't have a camera so there really is not much they can do. I will tell you one thing they didn't drive them back out. Next time I will make sure I have my camera.

Lazy pricks!!!! Stupid people shouldn't breed.. Their dads should have flushed them down the toilet.

I saw a couple kids on a dirt bike out on the Southwest desert last weekend. They went the other way pretty quick when they saw me trying to get tag numbers. I turned a couple guys in last year. I had to go back with the forest service LEO and show him where they were, but they ended up prosecuting the guys.

I totally agree!!! There is nothing worse than hiking your azz off, just to find four wheeler tracks! It is getting worse every year too! The only thing that takes my fustration away is when I find a set 30 yards away from where the wheeler tracks were! That happend a couple of weeks ago!

my spot gets hit by a guy in a airplane who marks them with a gps then take a horse in.
then this year i found 4 other groups of shed hunters out there that ran the elk out in march.
i've only found one brown elk and two brown deer sheds in 5 trips out
found 5 white deer sheds.
i've been sick with pnamounia so my longer hikes are still ahead. enough hiding spots i think i can still find some in there.
wish i was out there right now......

It's been a long hard ride
Got a ways to go
But this is still the place
That we all call home

LAST EDITED ON Apr-04-13 AT 06:21PM (MST)[p]Shummy, not sure if you'll see this but was the dirtbike an older white enduro by chance? I was out there this last weekend trying to locate where the bulls are hanging out and everywhere I went I kept cutting a set of fourwheeler and dirtbike tracks zigzagging through the cedars. While glassing one evening about a half mile from the road I was able to spot the dirtbike working the cedars and sagebrush. Lazy ass had a little chalk raghorn shed strapped to his handlebars, I guess that horn was worth running the bachelor group out of that drainage!

Havoc, so you just admitted to damaging someones personal property? I just want to get it straight. Please explain in detail what you did to the ATV's and where you were when you did it. How do you know they were shed hunting? Do you have photo's of the damage they caused, oh wait you didn't have a camera. What if someone was hurt? I hope you never find yourself in a situation that calls for a rescue requiring a vehicle to drive off road to save your sorry ass! You are lucky the owners didn't catch jacking with their bikes. You most likely would have been the one receiving the tune-up. I call BS on your story. You looking for a little MM fame? If in fact you did mess the bikes (cough bull chit cough) you are worse than they are. So when I pull to the side of a two track, in a grassy flat, am I gonna return to find my tires flattened, spark plug missing, gas tank shot up?

Sneak id never damage someones ride. Ill take photos with gps coords and turn them in but i wont tell if i saw someone tune one up where it inst supposed to be. These tards have no idea what there doing when they kill sagebrush. That is our deers main diet in winter. You loose that and the areas carring capasity will go down. This illegal off road riding has got to stop.
So sneak if your legal you wont need to worry about getting a fine or getting a tune from sstm. Besides why are you defending this illegal offroader.

who farted?

Why are you defending this guy destroying someones vehicle? Bessy doesn't scare me none. What does scare is the vigilantly mentality that views it ok to damage someones property in the name of saving the winter range. I understand the frustration. We've all experienced similar problems. I understand the winter range is sacred, I get it. But messing with someones way home, seriously!!! Think it through...Do as you said SW, take photo's, turn it over to the appropriate law enforcement agency. Does any of us know what the people are really doing out there? I look at it like this: this specific scenario could be that they are shed hunting and tearing up the winter range; or they could be lost, or looking for someone that is lost. Someone may be hurt, OR someone may get hurt while out hiking and need that vehicle to get to help. I'll tell you right now if I got a call from someone that was lost or injured in a bad way, I'd do what ever it took to get them home and to the help they needed. I couldn't live with myself if I found out that my actions caused someone serious harm. Yes I do value human life over the well being of the winter range and the animals that live on it.

And for those that will try to compare the misuse of atv's and the environment to other crimes...don't, just don't. If someone invades your home, property or attempts to harm your loved ones....totally different scenarios, so don't even bring those things into this topic. Bottom line, if you see someone driving in a place that is off limits, turn them in. Should you choose to take matters into your own hands...well, be prepared for the consequences that may follow. Good luck to all while out hiking or biking the hills this year. May you get a back pack full of sheds every outing, and may vehicles be in a 'safe' zone each time you go out. Hopefully you'll be able to return safely home.

I don't believe that there are any off road closures in swd. Unless something has changed in writing since last year when we had this discussion, people can ride where ever they want down there.

The discussion of bumping the critters around it a whole nother can of worms.

This is nothing but another rehash of this thread and like before utter nonsense.

http://www.monstermuleys.info/cgi-b...read&om=19729&forum=DCForumID5&archive=yes#41

and my quote from that thread -

>I was told directly from the
>BLM that Warner Valley is
>the only place that it
>is allowed to ride atv's
>off the trial.

Warner Valley is managed by the St George office and they have a very nicely published map and written description of what is open or closed to cross country OHV use.

The peaks on the other hand is managed out of the Cedar City office and they have no published maps or written closures available to public land users.

Unlike the ranting and raving of the clueless one, I actually have looked it up.

Secondly, just because some nutter from the BLM says something is closed doesn't make it so.

Cheers,
Pete

Those folks believe it's their right to drive where ever they want. They paid for the machines with hard-earned money, and they've paid taxes on whichever federal agency's land were discussing. How do you counteract those points? It's just more gov't regulation being brought down on them. Around here, the "agencies" keep closing more and more of the access roads.

b**** and complain all you guys want its not gonna change a thing. people will ride their bikes where they please. if you really want to put a stop to it, then join your state game and fish and become a warden until then just get over it.

Flatten someones tires a mile off road and they will think twice next time. I've never done it but that could change with the next one I see. If the law won't stop them maybe a tune-up will

I just got back from the Rock Pile trying to find some bone. Drive 4 hours and hiked three hours to get where there should have been elk and sheds. We were MILES from the closest legal trail and wouldn't you know! Quad tracks zig zagging through every sage flat, through the cedars and on EVERY ridge top and had ran almost every elk out of the area. I own a quad and can tell you it would have been more work getting a bike into where they were than to get their lazy asses off the bike and hike in. Couldn't believe it.

we hiked in two miles because of private land blocking the access road, walked around it.
we got in there and here are three trucks, 4 4 wheelers and 8 dogs.
said they were hunting lions but who drives a grid pattern over every inch of a area looking for lions, they definitely were no lions on the flats.
4 wheelers loaded with sheds.
called the rancher but nobody had gotten permission to cross the private and there is no other way in.
the wife and i ended up hiking 7 hour and never found a antler.
yeah i was hot!!!!
