So I had a big plan... Gonna take 2 new llamas and a rookie into the backcountry for a few days. Made it a mile from the t/h and had the mother of all rodeos. Union llamas on strike non-union slipping their saddles trying to break the strike- total chaos. Back to truck back to home back to pasture, back to planning board as 6 hrs of trail time pissed away. New string, new t/h, new destination...PLAN B!
Right before dark got to an acceptable camp and went for a walk after setting up camp... 0 fresh and a huge cinnamon bear@ 50 yards. Close enough to watch his tongue hit the water when he got a drink, then he scratched his back on a quakie for 15 minutes while Cody tried to fit up my pant-leg. His new registered name is chicken-sh!t Cody... After a 1/2 hr he winded me and split. Cody about died of terror when he hit his tracks, for the next 4 days he was growling at anything dark he saw- rocks stumps etc. He saw bears EVERYWHERE!!

Next day 12 miles for 4 shakers- very poor but a lot of old ones.
Next day went the other direction- even worse no old OR fresh... Over the mtn into another drainage and glassed up a set from 1/2 mile off. They had to be big and I could see they had 7x7 frame but sometimes glassing from afar fools you. When I got there I about pissed my pants... we have tons of elk but they don't get very big, I had never seen anything like this even in RMNP. 23 yrs of horn hunting and I had finally done it, fresh- no chewings, and huge mass. 7x8 approx. 378

Found half of another 330 bull and spent the next day+1/2 looking for the mate to no avail but ended up with 18 fresh. I've got some really spectacular llama pics but the background is just a wee bit too recognizable... So I will have to hold those for personal use, these will have to do, sorry.
