Nevada shed season

Been hearing rumors of Nevada placing a shed season into place for next year. Season starts March 1st, and if you want to legally look for antlers in Nevada, it will cost you the price of hunting license to do so. So to all the early shed hunters thank you for this. :) I know many are against it but most of you that are, are probably the reason this is going into affect. Won't be long before Utah and Arizona follow.

They cant even enforce the wildlife harrasment laws they already have, adding a new one they cant enforce is a joke. I use to think ndow was one of the better run wildlife agencies around, im beginning to see they are just like everyone else.

Almost works? When would it end? How high can we have the out-of-state fee be? Personally, I'd love an outrageous fee on out-of-state folks - just saying. You all come over here in mega-hoards on your atv's, and the locals end up with this shed-season business to deal with now. Thanks, we'll just jack up the fees and fines it looks like. The usual questions about "off-season" and finding antlers while engaging in otherwise legal activity. Of course, we would all gps them and come back during the season;not likely for many folks.
To be realistic about it though, we have plenty of folks this year who have driven up on mid-February elk sheds and you simply can not ask for folks to just drive by when it's on a regular road.

In the last five years I have seen antler hunting fly through the roof in popularity. A lot of the new comers just don't give a crap about the wintering game. They have a mentality of I need to find the most and biggest so people will like think I'm cool on Facebook. I have looked for antlers one time in Nevada. And I was disgusted by how many ppl from Utah where out there roaming around on atv's. I left a do won't go back. I can feel he frustration from local Nevadans. I hope this helps and doesn't hurt the future of antler hunting.

actually you are incorrect on your dates. it will be you can not touch a shed antler from December 31st until april 15th, if it gets passed. that's straight off the agenda.

What will the fee be? And I wasn't 100% sure on the dates. It will be interesting to see if it passes and if it does what the affects will be.

My question is what's the govt gonna do when we decide to take our country back. I like and dislike this I like it for the fact that it'll let the Bulls winter but a set date is a joke it should be judged by the severity of the winter which would force biologists to actually do their job. I also believe there should be a set free resident and non resident there shouldn't be a higher fee for non residents and if this happens then Utah should do the same. Which may weed out a good number of shed hunters. In Utah I believe we should have a season on the Wasatch front and this should apply to hikers as well as hunters. Bottom line is the dollar value has destroyed our sport of shed hunting and the govt. Is too involved in our lives.

Not sure I know Wyoming has a date may 1st. The two areas we have hunted the one is awesome we do well the other it's not the out of staters that horn poach it's the oil men and the locals in the area we do well the fish cop is on top of it. I don't have a problem with a late March or early to mid April date in Nevada its the paying I have an issue with. Does anybody know where we can find the info on this law they wish to propose.

I called and talked to one if the biologists and that's where I heard about the season and fee.

the fee would just be a Nevada hunting license, which most shed hunters have anyway because they are hunters too that apply for Nevada, no other fee or special stamp or any other B.S. ,,, YET!! Im sure that will be in the works in coming years, as any way to make a dollar these days seems to be put into play, no matter how stupid or ridiculous.

The fee will not be a hunting license as many folks that shed hunt do not have hunting licenses; that's one thing that seemed certain at the meeting just held here in Ely. Season date might bump back a couple of weeks. There are alot of details to be figured out still like fee structures;who can enforce which laws; what to do with early sheds on and near roads; decent and fair fines and penalties, ages for 'license'; how do you differentiate between other legal activities and horn hunting/stashing during the closed time; and how can we fairly get Utahns to stay home and out of our county. Enough laws seem to exist concerning motorized travel off-road, so that wasn't directly addressed. Although, we were told the county is writing new reg's to tighten that up.

I might add that the basis for instituting a season seemed more emotional than anything? Statistical evidence of degradation of resources and the effect on deer and elk did not exist. Even anecdotal evidence, little stories, of bad things happening were not shared. Just a notion that something ought to be done and this was the plan to deal with "the problem".
The problem lots of folks did seem to focus on was off-road motorized vehicles. The issue a committee started looking at 5-6 years ago was off-road vehicles which led to some of the road/trail closures we now have. Along the way, they decided they should continue to work towards fixing more of the world. I think they figured out they didn't have funding to fix the off-road deal, so they needed a way to get specific funding leading to fees for shed hunters. And, if you're going to have fees, why not have a season which leads us to an April 15th in the future.
Even unknowing people just out on a camping trip to Nevada that happen upon shed elk antlers could get themselves in trouble. That can and does happen in these parts. What to do?
That's my take on the situation with my own "spin" of course. We'll see what happens further up the legislate/regulative chain.

Well Dawgs, that's what came from your local game board meeting. Out of mine they said you WILL HAVE TO HAVE a bunting license. Now, neither of these have actually happened as they just are at the local game board level right now, but here there was never a separate fee mentioned either, just a hunting license.
