Could be the buck was already dead when the shed side came off. Looks like its been there for quite some time. Has the left G3 been chewed on? Maybe thats what separated it.
Great find. Nice 4x4.
The tips of a couple tines have been chewed on a little bit. The side that was attached to the skull was on there pretty good, I figured it would pop right off when I picked it up.
Ive been out and about a bit this year, nothing too crazy. Been doing pretty well in the neighboring ranges around town. Saw way more people out this spring than last, and Id just as soon find a couple here and there and not have to wrestle any from anybody.
The deer was laying there dying when it shed. When the testosterone levels reach a low point is when the deer will shed antlers. My guess is that it was there for a couple days still alive, levels dropping fast and popped an antler. I've seen this first hand and other stories as well.
