This is what we saw opening day of the shed hunt. Talked to another group that had cell service and they had called the warden. I never did hear what happened but if they need pictures as proof I have some ok ones. To bad I had to take them through the spotter.

I saw this same thing last year. The Wardens can't do anyhting about it. You have to call the BLM. I turned in three guys last year, and they were all fined $500 Each. It's important to get all of the info you can (license plate, description, time, date, and location). If you can't prove it, it won't go anywhere and these guys will come back year after year and do it again and again.

By the way, the guys I caught last year were from Idaho. Several Wyoming guys were on atvs this year. There were also some Wyoming locals that were breaking into Utah trucks. But I guess it's all the "Utards" fault for going up there in the first place right? They have ruined everything.

I went to Jackson and did the opener there. At 12:15 am you could see flashlights 3 miles in from the nearest boarder. As soon as it got dark they moved into the closed area and at 12:00 they turn on their lights. I ran into a warden who watch my group through a scope and said thanks for waiting until 12:00 to put your fire out and cross the boarder. I asked him if they nailed anyone for going in early. He said it was a good year. I asked if it was a good year for antlers or for tickets. He said tickets. They nailed some guys with a $100 dollar ticket for being in a closed area early and $500 for every antler in their possesion and they hauled them out and made them wait until morning to go back in. I know for a fact they didn't catch all of the cheaters. There was also a rumor of a few piles and a sting operation. I hope the wardens throw the book at them so it doesn't happen next year.
P.S. I don't know if they were from Utah, but lets pretend.

As bad as that looks they did not leave the area with many horns. We kept hiking near them which pushed them closer and closer to the road.

We did manage to pick a few up and got our set we were hoping for so I guess they can't get them all.

Didn't see any law-breakers on wheelers. Just lots of people this year; more than usual, it seemed.

Watched a group of 35-40 bucks in the same area until late Feb. Half of them had shed the last time we were there. We were going to have a field day! Wrong. 3 of us turned up 4 antlers, and 3 were hard white. Ran into a fellow from Utah that had 2 brown, and saw another couple that other guys had picked up. No boot tracks, and no wheeler tracks. Very open country. Sagebrush not thick at all. It was obvious that most of the bone had been picked up while the snow was still on the ground. We figured these guys must be shed hunting at night in March and April. Either that or the badgers and ravens are getting all the bone.

Found plenty of bone in other places, but the spot that should have had the most had almost none. The Utah fellow commented how strange it was that there was no antler there as well. We ended up with over 30 for the day, so it was an okay day.

Where we were it looked like it rained the week before so it must of washed all the early tracks out. We did have a couple of spots that should have had horns but didn't.

I still like the shed season. It gives me a fair chance at some horns. I have picked my biggest sets and more brown then ever since they implented the shed closure . I just could not justify going into an area while deer where there but that's what you had to do to get the browns.

How did the winter kill look to you guys?

I would say it was the least amount of winter kill I have seen ever!

I was a little surprised at the numbers of carcasses I found.

Still very low winterkill, though.

I like the season as well. Gives me a chance to get all the horn before the rest of you guys!! ;)

Brown horn isn't very brown by May 1, though.

That right there is the reason all ATVs should have a nice big easy to read lic. Plate front and rear. Just like cars we need a way to identify. Law breakers from. A distance. I hat e more laws rules etc. but illegal use of ATVs makes my blood boil...

I agree elks!

But think about it:

The Bundy Standoff!

Now the Recapture Deal!

When the BLM & USFS Finally Man Up I'll bet there's more Law Breakers & Militia than ever seen before!

Not sayin it's Right cuzz it's not, just sayin!

I say the HIGH COUNTRY TUNE-UP is the way to go!

You don't really think the BLM is gonna do anything good for anybody do you?

When I noticed they did not even care I was taking pictures of them I tried to catch up to them in the next draw. I had a friend with me and my 9 year old. When I started to hustle up the hill my 9 year old asked what I was doing cause we have never hiked for sheds at this pace I told him I was going to pic a fight!

Well he decided he wanted nothing to do with that and sat down. I had not noticed till I was on the opposing ridge and looked back to see him still sitting where I last talked to him. Thats when I realized my anger was getting the better of me and my 9 year old has more common sense then most adults. I knew it was time to turn back and just go hit another spot. It did stop them from coming down those 2 ridges though.

We did get a bunch of antlers in 4 days. I guess Karma was on our side.

LAST EDITED ON May-12-14 AT 08:40PM (MST)[p]i found tracks from the opener all over gods creation. Some lazy slob on a side by side offroaded everywhere. I might hit that spot in the opener next year to try and catch him in there. I found a ton of sheds he literally rode right past. The amount of demolished sagebrush is what really pissed me off.

I found very few dead deer and ive been pounding the hills the last 11 days. I found way more dead elk than deer, probably close to 20 of them. Im thinking wolves are to blame i found some wolf droppings in the area but not by the carcasses. It could just be wounded elk from the late season hunt. It was an excellent year for deer winter survival.
