I don't do as well as some hunters on this site, and I spend countless hours sometimes where there isn't even any sign of deer or elk having been present, just hoping maybe I will find an antler from previous years. But then, I will have an amazing experience that makes up for all the frustration. A friend tipped me off to a location awhile ago where he had seen four bull elk crossing the road. The first trip out, I did find a couple of deer and elk antlers, but then had several monster hikes that yielded nothing. I decided to give it one more shot...and after hiking for several hours, I actually stumbled upon a nice 6-pt. elk left side! The particular area was miles back in from road access, and so thick as to curb any atv activity, and I surely thought I'd never find the match in years of searching, so I wandered aimlessly about, just hoping...then I grew tired of my vain search, paused on a rocky outcrop to get a drink of water, looked down at the bush I was standing next to...and thought "Wow! Another nice antler!" BUT amazingly and incredibly, it was the match to the antler I'd found! I still am awed that it played out the way it did. Not a spectacular find, but I'm thinking a 330-ish 7x7 bull elk! A lot is just being in the right place at the right time...just meant to be!

Good finds, Pete. Yes, we all love the days that turn into just "hikes". Better than being inside, but...a little luck helps the mojo.
