LAST EDITED ON May-04-16 AT 10:27AM (MST)[p]Sorry to say founder, you will never have another chance to put this buck down. These antlers came off a deadhead, when I went to turn him over to get a better look at him, one of the antlers fell off, so I convinced the other side to come off. He must have got died just before he dropped.

How are these for as they lay.

What a shame. Darn it. What did he end up scoring?

Question on adding score, I have taken all the measurements but am not sure if I need to add the tip to tip measurement or the inside spread measurement or both, as soon as I get that info I will post the score.

Very nice buck indeed! I have a question for you. What does his main beams measure and what did you use for the inside spread? I had him closer to 210". Thought he had close to a 200"main frame and about 10"'s of trash. Great find!

LAST EDITED ON May-04-16 AT 06:16PM (MST)[p]I left my chart at work but if I am remembering correctly the main beams were 22 6/8 & 23". The inside I had at around 21". About 9" of extras on each side, one had 3/4" more than the other, the eye guards are busted probably 1/2" to an inch on botthe sides.

Did anyone figure out how far that buck migrated? Also, don't want to offend you, but that buck sure looks bigger than your reported score. The left side definitelyappears ton has more than 9"s of extras. Is there an official scorer in your neighborhood? Congrats on an incredible find.

>Thank you, I am coming up
>with 205"
Don't forget the 4 mass measurements

LAST EDITED ON May-05-16 AT 11:24AM (MST) by Founder (admin)[p]No offense taken, I was kind of dissapointed as well, I see alot of picts of deer that score high and I may be doing something wrong or they may be exaggerating. Here is another example I scored this buck what do you all think he scored, I will put up his score tomorrow. He is a larger frame than the first and also has a couple of kickers.

Throw up your score sheet on the first buck then we can tell if you're doing anything really wrong. Like forgetting a measurement or measuring like the g2 wrong.

You da man. I'll say the others sheds score mid 90s each. Don't know if it's legal, but you might go back and p/u the skull off that beast and have your taxi mount it...then sell it to founder. Lol. Again congrats on a tremendous find.

It would be cool to know how far the old fellow migrated. Don't want any coordinates. Just amazed how the start in the high country and fool us all and then end up somewhere else.

I only know where he was in the summer. I know the droptine buck I was looking at last year wintered in the ballpark of about 35 miles from where he summered. That's based on where someone told me he wintered. So.....???
Not sure on this buck. Maybe we can get a ballpark on this one also...???
Still a bummer to see him dead, and I too thought he'd go better than 205.

DANG, FOUNDER, thats too bad. I wish we could have found him during the hunt. Sad to see such a great animal die like that. Better find you another one.

To give some background on the buck, I was Searching an area I had found a heavy single the day before, trying to locate the other side. I searched the thicker sage then climbed a small hill to glass the area.
I spotted an antler on a fairly open side hill, it was mostly grass with sparse brush and a few trees, about 500 yards away under an old dead tree that really offered little to no shelter. I had originally thought it to be a match to my other side but the longer I scoped it, the more I thought it might be a deadhead, the antler was standing vertical and I could not see it hanging on any brush. I was not able to see the other side because of a some brush until I was about 50 feet away from it. It appeared to be a straight 4x4 I did not see any of the extras until I rolled the head and the left antler fell off.
As for the cause of death I hope that he exhausted himself during the rutt spreading his genes. He was just 1 foot below a well formed bed and his body was positioned of that of a bedded buck so I guess it was either age, disease or maybe one of those storms that hit just as the deer were dropping their antlers. He died in his bed and all his parts were still there so I don't suspect a predator.
Do you think I should go recover the skull?
As for location I am not going to make it public on here but if founder wants to exchange summer and winter general area in a pm, we can do that and give the approximate mileage he travelled.
As for my weekend two days hunting Sunday and Monday I hiked 32 miles found 42 antlers and brought out 39. I think I only had about 5 or six Browns mostly hard whites and chalk. I got one other set that's a year old and probably scores around 180.

Sad indeed but at least this way Founder knows and isn't left wondering and spending countless hours trying to locate a buck that is no longer around. I have had several bucks that I have watched over the years disappear and I wish I knew what happens to them, whether they were shot, killed by predator or sitting on a hill waiting for some lucky person to come across them etc.

Yes, I'm glad that I know, because I would have returned and not found him and been scratching my head.

I've been going to call and run up and hold the antlers, but just haven't. We'll have to get an idea how far he traveled. I'm guessing it's in the 50 mile range. ???
