FYI....
Greg Sheehan, Director of the UDWR just signed an emergency order that closes shed hunting February 1, 2017 through March 31, 2017. The shed antler and horn gathering season will be closed in the following counties: Box Elder, Weber, Cache, Rich, Morgan, Summit, Wasatch, Duchesne, Uintah, Carbon, and Emery. What do you think of the closure? I personally think it is a good idea. Here is link with more information. Fstop

Weber county is not on the list.

Should be good for the deer, but most people will still be out there running deer around trying to get sheds. There's guys in Cache county with feeding stations setup just waiting for the deer to shed. I'm betting money those will still get scooped up.

LAST EDITED ON Jan-31-17 AT 01:29PM (MST)[p]I noticed that the DWR left Weber County off of their news release as well. But, looking further into this, I noticed the actual language in the Emergency Closure included Weber County.

Also, if you look at the DWR news release it says, "DWR to close 11 counties to shed antler gathering." Although only 10 were listed. My guess is Weber County was missed in the news release? Looking into it now for clarification.

I like it! but, Its going to be hard watching people walk into these closed areas and pressing there luck. You bet I will be watching areas with my spotting scope and phone skope attached getting video of people shed hunting. I just hope the DNR will not blow it off when I call, saying they are to busy with other things.

Now you guys will see what wy has been dealing with it only hurts the honest guys!

Spotting scopes and cameras, catch the poachers in the act, I know of a few roads in sw Wyoming that has trail cameras placed to catch license plates for the guys who can't stay out after dec 31

I kill it every year on may 1 in Wyoming. Last year was 42 antlers before noon. ?

LAST EDITED ON Jan-31-17 AT 04:47PM (MST)[p]My thoughts? There's cow elk hunts still going in every one of these counties with the "closures" and every time I have watched a rifle go off towards a herd of elk, they get running harder than they do when someone on foot "chases" them. interesting...

This is the 2nd step to a tag/permit regulated shed season in Utah. Next step, we all take it up the tailpipe yet again by our dwr telling us what we can and can't do with our wildlife on public land, all the while reaching into our pockets, to pay to play, all in the name of conservation and management ?

Its probably not a bad idea but what about lion/coyote/rabbit hunters/snowmobiles or whatever else people do besides shed hunt? Do those guys stay off winter ranges too?

I think its a good call, with the conditions in many of these areas. I also find it sad that more restrictions are needed because some people are just to stupid to use common sense. Or, they simply don't care. Hopefully those that do care will be keeping an eye on things. I know I will.

Cooper what good are pics of license plates when the game and fish have to see poachers picking them up in person to even write a ticket!

Bingo. +10

The animals could use a break. Hopefully people will stay off (not likely).

Davis and Salt Lake counties may get hammered now.

That's true!
I caught some guys hunting a LE deer unit and had the plate pic and was told the F&G might look in to it. When I followed up I was told that THEY didn't see the guys actually hunting so there was nothing that could be done. So much for tipping off the F&G but since a critter wasn't killed right then that it was all for nothing.

Like Stated above!

I'll Bet You won't Be Shed Huntin Much Longer without paying a Nominal F'N Fee to do so!

If the DWR can Close it Down on Private Property they're Basically Telling You that they Own them Sheds!

Even when they Land on Your Private Property!

Maybe the Shed Licenses could be PIMPED out to the Highest Bidders!

OK Guys!

I've Enhanced My Odds in the Big Game Draw Once again!:D

RIP Johnny Doerr!

License plate won't do a bit of good unless they are driving through a private or leased sections that someone wants closed off. You have to be in possession of a shed on a public or state section. Do what you want on private but you better have permission and leave those sheds there. Take those sheds you found on a private section and get caught with them on a BLM or state section you can get busted. The G&F is short handed but they nailed lots of guys here in SW Wyoming last year believe it or not. Playing stupid doesn't work. Theres going to be lots of pissed off shed hunters this year. One of the land owners closed off the access from the top of the Bigelow bench to passed the TA this year and the bottom access has already been closed off with a main road reclaimed and walkin areas only.
