Opening morning my 12 year old and I set out for a steep canyon where I had glassed up two tall antlered bucks the weekend before. We headed up the canyon, stopped to glass for the first hour seeing nothing. We headed over the next ridge to glass a large bowl that looked good. Immediately I spotted several deer feeding in an old burn. Two were almost identical looking two point bucks at around 240 yards. My son had never taken a buck before so he wanted to take one of the bucks. One shot at a steep downward grade put the buck down in the tall grass. We headed over and surprisingly couldn't find the buck even after I watched it drop in it's tracks. I headed back up to where he shot from and guided him in where he found the buck. Amazing how they can disappear. This year we're headed to 36B for the late November hunt to hopefully tag something bigger. Thanks for looking
