'09 AZ Coues'

Finally going to get my 09 coues on the forum. I had a great hunt in southern arizona with my dad and uncle. On opening morning my dad and I found a nice vantage point. Within 5 minutes i had spotted a few deer and while switching to the spotting scope i snapped off a piece of my tripod, what a start huh?? Some duct tape fixed it though. Later that morning i narrowly avoided the itchy finger and avoided shooting a spork (spikex2). That evening is when the hunt got interesting.
I headed to a more secluded spot. After getting really disapointed at seeing a couple hunters glassing at a prime location I spent an hour getting to, I slipped past them and hustled one more ridge , the sweat was pouring but I kept telling myself if I went a little harder and farther it would pay off. Well right before dark i jumped a lone deer. As I was on the shady side of the mtn, I couldnt tell what it was, but the body size said buck to me. As he skylined, I saw it was a beautiful buck, and I noticed tall swooping beams. I was sick to not get a shot, but the image made it easy to get up for day two.
The next morning my dad and uncle and I were up glassing. Nothing much during prime time besides a few does. As late morning arrived I decided to go back to the general area where i saw the buck. I began using a method that seemed to work really well with these little masters of cover. I started quail hunting. I made lots of noise and even threw rocks into the brushy draws trying to kick up bucks.
I found an awesome little rock cropping and paused to look for deer in the oak filled draws below. I decided i needed to lose some coffee, so i turned around and unzipped my pants and slung my gun, just in time to hear two bucks explode from the draw no more than 30 yards away. I swung around, pants still unzipped and got one quick shot, which was a miss. After a few swear words I hurried after them. The second time I got in on these bucks I missed again. The third time i jumped just one of the bucks and this time he was on a slightly more open hillside 275 yards away. As he ran about 40 mph across the hill, i missed the first shot and contemplated throwing my rifle at him. The second shot i led him a foot in front of his shoulder and heard a beautiful thwack, watched him roll head over heels, and then get up and keep chugging. Running out of time and almost frozen in awe at the toughness of this buck I duplicated the first shot, and this thwack sent him end over end straight down to the bottom of the steep canyon until he fell off a 10 foot cliff at the end. My jaw dropped and when i got to the bottom it still took another shot to finish him. What a tough beautiful animal.I am pretty sure this is the buck i jumped the first night, with the tall swooping beams. I was so pleased with him and he is my second coues'. To spend the hunt with my dad and uncle even made it more amazing. If you read up until now hope you enjoyed. Happy hunting-
