LAST EDITED ON Dec-18-10 AT 09:00AM (MST)[p]Hey "Coues" people!

I normally find myself in some of the other forums (I'm a die-hard Blacktail and Muley hunter)on this site but this year my friend and I finally drew late Dec Coues tags for 36B so I have been lurking here lately. We are well aware of the issues involving the "undocumented" folk that utilize that area and are taking the necessary precautions (traveling/lodging with a local "expert", hunting together rather than solo, etc...). We will be leaving for our hunt the day after X-mas and hunting the entire last week of the season. Before we pull out I have a few qustions for the experts out there:

1. Realistically, if we have the proper equiptment (high quality optics, trained eyes, etc) how many branched-antler bucks on average should we see a day?

2. What caliber of bucks are people typically taking in this unit on this hunt in recent years? Is there any stats available on this...such as BC scores? (any pics you could share?)

3. On day 3 of a 5 day hunt would you shoot a 100 in 3x3 or hold still hold out?

4. Does anyone have any other pertinent, up to date (recent) info on any specifics of the area that are not already published by the AZFG or heavily discussed on this or the other major Coues forums?

Thanks in advance for any info you feel comfortable sharing!

Here are a couple pics of Coues from 35a. If you only have 5 days to hunt I would advise shooting any 100 pt buck you see on any day of the hunt (unless you already have 3-4 on the wall and are ok with tag soup). Seeing one and getting a shot are quite different things.
Judging them accurately can also be a challenge at times.
Good luck on your hunt. We will be on the same hunt in 35a for the week after Christmas also.
NB

1. I have never hunted this unit before but in the units I hunt in December seeing 5+ bucks is an average day. Ten bucks would be pretty good.

2. I can't say for this unit.

3. On day 1 of 5 day hunt I would shoot a 100" buck. On day 3 a 90" buck would be pretty tempting. Word to the wise: If you haven't ever hunted these animals before, it can be tough to tell a 90" buck from a 100" buck.

4. No specific info on the unit, but have a great time! No matter what it will be a blast. Post some pics when you get back.

"Old school" . Make me feel like an old fart. Those pics range from 1989 to 2008 and I have some older ones also. I'm adding some of the 3 we got last week.
