I'm heading to 6B this week for the coues hunt. Addict has gone out on a limb and promised me a shooter....What are my chances? The topo maps look like there is a lot of very rough country. Hopefully, a buck worthy of my tag is holding out in one of those nasty draws. Wish me luck!

Lucky you have help, can be rough. You are on the very northern edge of whitetail country, so it's nothing like the southern AZ hunts where you see lots of deer everyday. If they are on top, it's thick pine trees. Some will be in the bottom of the big canyon (if you don't know which canyon I mean, you will know it after you go in and out of it a few times, ouch!). Be sure to let us all know how it went. Have fun, should see some elk.

Clark,

You pretty much summed it up: rugged country and lots of it. We didn't see many deer (no elk). But I'm encouraged enough to do it again. We did go way down into Sycamore Canyon on a "death march". I'm still confident that there are deer worth the effort.

There's always next year!

LAST EDITED ON Dec-09-11 AT 09:01PM (MST)[p]a couple of the biggest coues bucks i ever seen were on the edge of sycamore- these were in april-may during a turkey hunt -
just being in the right place at the right time - thats hunting

Yep, Sycamore and death march are definitly related terms! Sorry you did not have lick but glad you enjoyed it. Consider trying down the street in 6a or 221 for similar country with better deer numbers.
