Hey guys. My daughter is almost 11 and she drew her very first tag. It's AZ unit 27 and she can take a Coues or Muley. Do any of you know this area and if so what species should we focus on? I've never hunted the ghost so it's all new. Do they live in the same habitat as MD?

I hunted that unit for the first time last January so if you are hunting a different time of year it could be different for sure. I did not focus on Coues but one of the guys I was with got a nice Coues. I was focusing on muleys but they did intertwine some for sure. It did seem like they were mostly separate from each other. Don't take what I say as gospel as I did not actually hunt coues in that unit but it seemed like he was finding them in little wooded meadows that were elevated away from any roads or anything like that. It seemed he had to climb some huge ridges to get to those meadows. We were at about 7,000 feet roughly and down by the san jaun campground if memory serves right.

We bow hunted 27 a couple of times. The Coues were way up high near cliffy stuff. Real inacsessible with a bow. We had a nice mule deer buck and 13 does kick the crap out of our deer target down in camp one morning. We happened to look back down into the basin where we were camped and got to see that circus. We coulda slept in, drank coffee, and shot that deer out the front door of the trailer. Fun stuff.

try the red hill road (I can't remember the road number off hand) but there are deer on the road if you come from the top and when you break out into the open area stop on the pull out and start glassing,to the left (actually all over but she wont want to walk that far. even walk back up the road just in the trees you'll see their tracks right on the road. there is a tank just off in the trees you can see it from the road.start there I'll get back asap
