I just got back from a hunt with OJO CALIENTE OUTFITTERS in Mexico. Wow, what a place. I missed 2 bucks at 300 yards on the 2nd and 4th days of the hunt that would have scored in the 105" range. I passed up 8 bucks the first 3 days that were as big or bigger than the buck I took. I ended up taking him on the 5th day just so I could have something to show for the hunt. His right G2 has 5" broken off, with that still attached he would have grossed 95". He has nice mass and very good brow tines (eye guards) for a Coues buck.
Hey B_F_E - Is your hat contest still on?! :) I tried attaching the picture but apparantly it's too large. Can anyone help?

Lien2, hell ya it's on, even though I may have to enlist Krusty's help as well in order to post my pict. had it scored & mine was a 98, the contest was best pict. not best score, judging starts feb.1

Nice one. I really like the background in the photo. Congrats on the fine animal. Too bad you missed the first few, but at least you got one, and a really nice one still. Congrats to you and Ojo.

I'd rather be lucky than good.

Thanks Knifeboy.
Yeh, missing the buck on the 4th day took a lot of wind out of my sails. Especially cuz we covered some ground that was pretty tough country. On the 5th day I decided that anything 90" or bigger would be fine. I sure wish I could go back and get another crack at one of those big guys again. Oh well.......I'm lucky to have experienced it once. :)
Thanks again.

Here's a quick update that I'm a little sick about. I apparantly didn't miss the first buck on my hunt. They found it last week and get this.........green score it missed B&C by 1/2"!!! Scores 109 4/8", 112" SCI.
I guess the old saying of "Trust your guide" burnt me on this one. My guide was watching through binoc's when I shot and he told me I missed high. He watched the deer walk away and lost sight of it due to darkness. We were a long way from camp so we just took off. I should've suggested we go back the next day and look for blood, etc. but I guess I trusted it was a miss.
I'm very glad it was found, it's a gorgous buck and I'm getting it mounted using the cape from my "smaller" buck, so it'll be a combo of the two deer. :) I still feel bad about it though.

I can see that happening in mexico with all the deer they have they just go on to the next one in the states you would have been looking for that one the next day You weren't by any chance hunting with Chris Denham were you? CM

CM -
Exactly. It's common practice for me to go to where the deer was standing when I shot (even if I'm sure I missed) and look for hair, blood, leg drag marks, etc. Also to search the area in general for a dead deer that maybe didn't bleed much. But I've heard this before that down there, they just move on to the next one. I didn't agree with this when it happened, but I didn't want to rock the boat and disagree with my "guide", remember your always supposed to trust your guide, and that's what I did.
No, I was hunting with Pepe Sujo from OCO. I didn't, and still don't, hold it against him, I thought he was great. I know they are trying to get every one to look more after a shot though. I'm just very glad it all worked out.

your right not to rock the boat The guide must have really believed you missed glad everything came out good LaterCM

Not sure how I missed this when you posted it, but congrats on a great looking deer! I need to send you an email and ask you a few things about your hunt.
