Coues Pics

Here's a couple of bucks I took in Mexico in 2004 with Cola Blanca Outfitters.

Muleys are #1, but Coues have got to be a real close second-for me anyway.

They are a great challenge and I love the food, the country, and getting out of the snow in January! Not to metion a good group of guys I've hunted with down there.

I'm planning on heading down again this January to hunt a new ranch. I think for the money, a Mexican Coues deer hunt is the best bargain out there anymore.

Prism,
Congrats on the Coues, I will have to say those are some dandys.
What did they score? I really like the one on your left, nice and thick, wow. Like any other type of hunting it just gets in your blood. Thanks for sharing the photos.
I personaly prefer the Coues hunting, but you know how everyone on this site reacts to saying stuff like that. They go crazy like muleys are the only worthy animals to hunt. I am really glad they have a forum here that is dedicated to Coues hunting. I guess I should thank Allen for moderating the forum as well and keeping it going.

Nice bucks for sure, especially the one weighing down your left arm. Any more pics of him?
The country in the background looks hospitable for both deer and hunter.

Thanks bout the bucks.

I figure the guys ribbing Coues deer hunters have never hunted them and don't have a clue.

The pic was taken at the ranch house we stay in, the country in the background would be nice to hunt, but we don't see many deer down low.

I've hunted some of the steepest, meanest country there is in the lower 48, and can tell you that where we hunt Coues is just as steep and for sure meaner than Utah's Wastach front, the Wyoming and Salt River ranges, etc..... Every freaking thing down there is sharp, thorny, and just plain nasty. But, I think that's what makes it so fun-it's a challenge.

It's just a cool hunt-period. I'll try to scrounge up a few more pics.

There's 3 Coues hunts in the new "Never Enough Western Big Game" DVD. I didn't get my buck kill shot on film (was by myself) but he sure took a tumble-it was a freaking steep mother. The way he was rolling I though he would make it to Baja.

I got some some footage of 140"+ buck taken in Mexico with the same outfitter last year. It has to be seen to be believed!

Prism,
Thanks for posting the second set of photos. The country still looks real couesy, although much steeper than behind the ranch. The mention and photo of backstrap over mesquite made me take a trip to the deepfreeze. Is the 140"er on the video?

RR, There's some footage of the monster Coues in the DVD. It's with the hunter back at the ranch house. The hunter was hunting the bordering property to where I was last year with the same outfitter. Not a whole lot of footage, but enough to give you an idea of how HUGE it is. Needless to say we were in shock when he pulled into camp with it! Awesome buck! Not sure I'd take it over a 230" muley, but I'd sure be tempted!

I don't even know where that would put it in the books-top 10 or 20 all time I'm sure. Any ideas?

No roots in Tucson or Flagstaff. I've spent quite a bit of time in AZ but not for long amounts of time. Sister used to live in Chandler. Great state, sure changes everytime I go down there-too much growth!

The Typical World Record for a Coues is 144 1/8, and for non-typical is 196 2/8.
I say you better go back and find that big boy.......sure would like to see pics when you get him.
I went on my first coues hunt this past January in Mexico also. Everything you guys said about it is true! It was an awesome time and definitely is addicting!
Thanks for the photos!

Sweet buck! Was it taken on the same ranch you shot your muley on?

Hope you like the DVD!

Prism, those are great bucks.....blows you away at how aggressive these little deer can be to break off so many horns during rut, but these tiny deer are mean pound for pound...... thanks for posting these pics....... Allen Taylor......
