what bullet do you all think is a good bullet out of a 270 wsm for our coues? doug, i know you like the accubonds and i like them as well. today i got some balistic tips, SST's and interbonds from hornady in 130 gr. i think i am going to try the TSX as well because the factory shot pretty decently. as far as bullet construction for these deer which is better do you all think? i shot my first deer with ballistic tips and they caused a lot of damage, even from 400 yards with a 30-06!

Casey,
I have shot 4 coues @ 350-475yds. with my .270 and 130 nosler BT's everyone of them hit the ground light's out but penetration was poor on all of them(never a pass thru) but the destruction inside was amazing. I think the SST's or the Accubonds are a better choice IMO. I would rather have a pass thru or a bullet lodged under the hide on the off side. The nosler BT's completely blew up, but like I said all deer hit the dirt and did not even flinch. Use what shoot's best and put it where it counts and you should'nt have any problems with any of the choices you mentioned.

try some 110 grain bullets. faster than superman and will flip a coues around like a rag doll. my kid uses 110 gr hornadys in his. work great and shoot straight as a string.

i killed my first deer at 300 with BT's and they were exactly like you said, masive internal damage but blew up. once i hit him in the shoulder it was all over to say the least!

RLH, i have thought about using some 110s but i have the varmint reticle scope and it says i should shoot 130's sighted in at 200 dead on.also, i think 110's at a short range shot, (yeah... right) would not perform like they should. also wind drift would be very high and hard to guestimate but i have thought about it and will prolly end up loading some of them for coyotes, javelina ground hogs whatever.

you're shootin' coues deer casey. look at your neighbors lab and put antlers on it. a 110 gr. will tear a coues a new one. guaranteed. my youngest boy uses 100's in his .270. killed a real nice coues with one lung shot last year. any bullet will work on coues. i'm not a fan of anything with a plastic tip on it, but they'll work too. if you need to use 130's for your scope to work right, that's fine. but a 110 is more than enough for a coues deer. especially at the speed a short mag slings it. my oldest son is getting somewhere around 3500 fps with his. if you used a .243 or a .257 weatherby you'd probably use 100's. i use nothing but 140's for everything outta my ol' .270. something i switched to years ago and just never saw a reason to change. i wish someone would make a 120. looks to me to be about perfect for any deer out of a .270. but a 110 will do a helluva job on a coues. i've seen it done a buncha times.

well today doug and i went to the range and found some loads that work well. 63,64 and 65 grains od h4831sc with 140 accubonds worked the best, ann under 1"
