I recently drew the archery tag for the Burro's, and I am super excited. I can't wait for the opportunity to hunt the toughest little deer around. This will be my first time hunting coues, and with a bow in hand I know I am in for a challenge! I have been hunting blacktails in the brush covered hills of California all my life, so I hope some of that knowledge will carry over to coues. However, I am wanting to learn more about this hunt, so if anybody has ever archery hunted the burros, or has any information that would get my research started in the right direction, that would be greatly appreciated!!!

Thank You,
Hornhole

Chad's a good hunter, and good with his bow.
He works as a Bowtech dealer.
He is new to the site and would like some help.
He failed to mention that the Burro mtns are in New Mexico.
Good Luck!

Well from what I've heard the burros have the kind of trophy potential that dreams are made of. The mountain range had been closed to deer hunting for a while letting bucks grow a little older. Also, I believe there was a predator management program in place, hopefully reducing the amount of predation on the deer herd.

I have never hunted the burros but I have hunted coues. With a bow you have a couple options on how to persue them. Spot and stalk is probably the most popular with treestands a close second. The coues can be tricky to stalk at times, just remember to take it slow and let the hunt unfold (don't try to rush it). Shots can also be on the long side 50 yards plus, and often times at a steep angle.

Keep in mind the coues are fairly active at any time of day, and a treestand can be very deadly especially during midday when the other hunters are eating lunch and taking a nap. Hopefully you are able to scout out some remote saddles and springs loaded with tracked up trails. Hang a stand and wait 'em out. Good luck dude.
