I do not know how and for some reason can't seemed to get it to work on posting pictures. If someone is willing I have some pics of my buddy's 05 coues that I could send to have posted.
My buddy is leaving for an out of state trip and I do not think he will have the time to post his story anytime soon, so I will tell it as best as I can from our conversation. It took him about 5 days of hard hunting and many hours of glassing to locate this buck. He was seeing does and a few bucks but not the type of buck he was hoping for. Obviously the rut is not anywhere near starting so the bucks were not hanging out with the does. Even after he found the canyon it was hanging out in it was difficult to see the buck on any regular basis. Evidently the canyon had thick cover and the buck did not show itself very often. Anyway after a couple of long days of exploring the canyon area he found a hidden natural spring that he figured was the buck's water source. He then made the decision to sit above that water source from sun up to sun down and see if he was right. Sure enough about 10:30 in the morning the buck came running into the spring and he made a well placed 100 yard shot with his 270 to put it down. I am sure there is more to it but that is all I can report from our brief conversatiomn.
This buck was shot in Az I am not at liberty to disclose the precise unit although I can say it was in the southern part of the state. As far as scoring, it has not been officially scored but it has been roughed scored at 106. I am not sure you can full appreciate it from the pictures but it has great mass.
Better than nice, that's a great coues buck! Congrats to your buddy on doing his homework and locating suck a nice buck, he'll have to give us his version of the story when he gets back. Thanks for sharing!
