A buddy and I are would like to hunt coues deer this year in Arizona , but don't know much about where to start. Any suggestions on hunt units and season ? Also is the late archery hunt a limited draw also ?

The late archery hunt is over the counter.

The 2 best places to start are coueswhitetail.com and azgfd.com.

Both of these sites have extensive information about AZ hunt units, seasons, areas, biology, etc.

Good luck! CB

AZGFD is trying to adjust the coues hunts and should make a decision at their April commissioner meeting. Their plan is to make more hunter "opportunity" by moving December hunts to October and/or November with more permits, especially in the central units.

The October and November have the better chances of gettting drawn; most are 80-100% THe draw odds for Dec are about 20% The coues densities are higher in the southern units, #29-36, but so is the illegal traffic density along the border.

AZ regs usuallly come out in mid May and are due the second Tuesday in June

There is a Dec. archery hunt that is over the counter and is good for many parts of the state. There is also the January archery deer hunt in much of the state that is also over the counter. The Jan. hunt would take a new hunting license and archery deer tag for that year, say 2007. However you could use that license for the rest of the year when applying for other draw tags or again for that years Dec. archery deer hunt.

What part of Wyoming are your from? If you want to shoot me an email, I will share information I know about this subject. And I will send you a picture of a buck I took on Jan 3. Bowhunting is over the counter. All of the rifle hunts are draw.
