Drew the Dec hunt for unit 32. I have archery hunted units 31 and 29 but this will be my first try with a rifle. Maybe a couple short trips into the wilderness. What is the water like down there so far this year?

I heard they had some good monsoon rain already this summer. A friend has a place off the north end and he said a more water was running out of the north end of the Galuiros than he'd seen in a years.

I was further south last year on the Nov. hunt and then went in scouting for five days during the second week of Jan. Both of those trips it was real dry! I actually saw more bucks in November.

I live in thatcher and we had a lot of rain over the weekend, even some flooding! Same with the area south and southwest of here, bonita/klondyke. Some dirt roads were temporarily washed out and closed. The last couple days it has been mostly sunny but has not broke 95 degrees! yee haw!! I am new to the area and was wondering if it took you any points to draw? I have also looked into unit 31 for next year (not a resident yet). i assume the december hunt is better but harder to draw.

They are calling for more rain this weekend.

I lived in mammoth all my life and hunted unit 32 for 20 years. Do alot of Scouting and get permision from the ranchers and you should have a good hunt.

Thanks for the information. I live in Maine so scouting is out..not counting what I can get on the internet, friends, etc.

I had 4 points going into the drawing. Tag #17 so I'm not sure if I was in the 20% or just plain got lucky. Can't remember if they gave 50 or 100 tags this year.

Not looking for a monster. Want to have a good time hiking in the back country with the wife (non-hunter) during December when our weather can be a little cool for camping. Good luck to all of the tag holders.

There are lots of deer in Aravaipa Canyon and also alot of deer in Redfield Canyon. If you hunt after Christmas the rut should be going, you have an oppertunity to find a good buck in there. I am sure other parts of the unit are probably better but those two spots have deer and are very glassable.
