I am taking my son down for the youth hunt this weekend (can only hunt sat/sun) and wondered if anyone has any good news from the earlier hunts...... Thanks, Allen Taylor......

We took my friends boy down also. Found two bucks that had been wounded last week and were dead, with crows all over them. One was 90 and one was 70's. Saw a boy shoot a 70 ish coues. Saw lots of muleys but only spikes. Saw lots of people in an area that we typically don't see anyone. Will be back at it this weekend.

I was down there for the middle hunt with buddies. We saw lots of deer, the best wasa high 80's to low 90's 3x4. They missed quite a few bucks but ended up filling all 3 tags, 2 2 pointers and a 60 inch 3 pointer. We saw lots of little muleys too. Good luck.

Thanks for the replies. We hunted sat/sunday and man was there a ton of people down in that unit. We saw alot of deer, mostly does. My son Travis passed on a small 3x3 mulie, he is bound and determined to kill a big coues deer.......LOL.....He ended up missing a good sized coues buck sunday morning 75ish. He was bummed but he got to learn some good lessons. We saw a couple other real small coues bucks and around 50 does but trying to fight the crowds of people was horrible. I think the AZGFD is giving out way too many tags for this unit between the october/november tags and the youth hunts I think there is around 1950 tags. I think maybe the youth hunts should be first before all the people pound the unit.............. Thanks, Allen Taylor......

I agree let the kids hunt first, I wonder if we were hunting the same area, you don't work with a guide service driving a silver truck with a 4 wheeler in back do you Bura?

I have a black chevy Z71 extended cab. It was just my son Travis and I. I hunted coming in from the I-19 side taking Arivaca road in. After saturday mornings hunt, we got back to our truck and there were 4 other trucks parked next to us. On the way back down to the main road, there were 4 more vehicles. I think there are just way to many tags for the size of the unit. I also think AZGFD could look into a junior hunt that gives the kids first crack at the deer or maybe giving the kids later rut type hunts where there isnt so many other hunters afield. This years juniors hunt overlaps with the November hunters the opening weekend. Anyway I think we need to ensure the kids have a great time along with opportunity.......... Thanks, Allen Taylor......

Allen,

I agree with you 100%. My boy started hunting when he was 11 years old and was able to draw five youth hunts. He filled his tags every hunt and he is now hooked for life. I believe that is the point. The one tough hunt we had was an October adult hunt (I think he was 13) and we though we did get him on deer, the tag went unfilled. Back then, the hunts did not overlap and you never saw a person. Give the kids a break!!! My daughter wants to start and I love to see it go back the way it was.
