My dad bought a couple of excess archery tags for 24. Where can I find some Coues on public land? We want to be able to camp and have a couple of fairly easy weekend hunts in September. Any advice?

I only spent three months scouting an area i know holds coues deer. And 14 days on a tree and around scrapes to get my two point buck last year. Its pretty easy

I know what you mean Tommy, I am already scouting stand locations for my Jan. hunt in Unit 23. It was a hard decision not to go back to Unit 21, but with good areas in Unit 23 being only about an hour and a half from Springerville, I figured I would be better off there. I found a Coues factory in 21 last year, but it is about three miles into the Wilderness. My old spots a mile from the road all had tree stands hanging in them. I guess all good things must come to an end. The easiest thing about bowhunting Coues deer is packing them out!!!

Whats new? Hey I drew the Burro in Jan for Muleys. What about the unit 24 side of McKnight. I've seen some Coues around there. It's been a couple of years ago though.

I don't know about that area for Coues, I know I have not seen many in there. I do know of a monster coues buck that came from that area many years ago. Good place to hunt bear. Good luck on your Jan hunt in the Burros. It should be a great hunt. I have a friend who had a Coues tag in the Burros last year. He was sitting on a log eating a granola bar when a bunch of does walked by below him. Then, out of the corner of his eye, he saw something right next to him. He turned to see a big Coues buck standing there watching him eat his granola bar. I guess the buck was very close, and there was nothing my buddy could do to get a shot. This friend and I will be hunting Coues in unit 23 in Jan.
