I heard Kodiak had signficant snowfall this winter. Preliminary reports indicates a high winter kill. Can anyone from the area varify this, particularly for the SE and SW areas of the island?
Thanks.

Jeff, I have been inquiring also and have received reliable info from hunters that live in Kodiak. They say that the winter is normal so far and things are looking good. No substantial winter kill so far. Are you planning another trip this year? Here is one of the responses that I got. Ed F

Don't know where you got you info,..but it hasn't been that bad. I've talked to a lot of the guides and people who live on remote property and the deer are doing good. We will always lose some of the late fawn crop when we have a real winter. We haven't seen any of the mature deer dying off. Have seen a few late fawns that didn't make it,..but have also seen a lot that are fat and healthy right now. There are lots of areas that don't have much snow except for up high. We do have a really good snow pack up high. The snow really didn't start piling up until mid Jan. anyway.
Anyway I think it will be a good year this year, as do some of the local guides that I know.

Ed, I have some insight on a hotspot. Only Andrews flies to this one area, so I'm looking for some die-hearted bowhunters who may want to join me. Let me know....
