Why is it that no one posts on this site. I posted a thread and got a few responses went to the Archery post and received numerous responses. Their are lots of Ghosts out their and are probably the most challenging deer to hunt, lets hear stories, areas, hunting!
I hunted blackies for 3-4 years and took one with a bow, Hunting Mulies I took one a year with bow, rifle and Muzzleloader respectively. Lets hear it from you Ghost hunters out their.
This just isn't a Mulie web site it is a hunting web site.

For me it's just to frustrating to think about how many deer have died off due to the Big Cats, just 4 years ago there was something to talk about for me, but it's just getting worse and I'm focusing my attention elsewhere, the Calif. F&G dept. aren't doing anything to stop the slaughter by cats so Why should I line the pockets of the Calif. F&G dept......

Ive hunted all the deer speices iN NA and the BT is the toughest public land deer to hunt..bar none. Dave

Hey Manny 15 how did you and your family do this year?Me and my two brothers and my son taged out this year.We took 5 bucks in zone b3,2 in x3b and one in c zone. This was one of the best years I,ve ever had in the b zones.Where we were at the last week of the season the bucks were in full rut.It was nice to look across a big canyon and watch a half dozen bucks chasing does around, really gets the heart pumping.I can,t hardly wait for next year...Devlin

This was my second season hunting blacktail. I hunted the airforce base in Zone A. It was a big challenge. Even on the base there is more than just a few hunters. Finding a two point was harder than i thought. Its pretty funny how i got my buck. i was sleeping in the back of my RODEO during the afternoon. I woke, got out and was looking for my pants.(only had boxers on,being it was 82 degrees outside.) Just then a doe and a descent two point walked out of the trees 30 yards away. I started diging around for my gun case. it took about 15 seconds to find the damn thing. I found two shells, threw on my orange vest and hat to make it official. took about ten steps saw the buck, threw up my rifle and took the shot at 75 yards. I gave him about 15 mins before tracking. Just enough time for me to put some pants, shirt, socks and shoes on. I tracked him for about 150 yards. which took about 2 hours. there is so much damn red poison oak out here following a blood trail is like tracking a goose on his flight south. i found him in the biggest patch of poison oak i have ever seen. it was taller than me. On a good note. i only found 4 ticks on me when it was all over. I also went back in the begining of december for their muzzleloader season. Got a nice 3x2 with out all the excitment. i have hunted mulies all my life, but i have to give blacktail their props. they are sneeky little suckers.

WyoAce, hey I was wonderig what air force base you are talking about??? I was stationed in Ca and was wondering if it was the same base.

LAST EDITED ON Dec-28-04 AT 07:15PM (MST)[p]Thanks Guys!
Yeah, I've missed the MM gang.
I'm almost embarassed to tell why I was gone so long!
I got this fancy new computer, and with my redneck education, I couldn't get it to post on MM, (something to do with the Norton Antivirus).
Anyway,
Damn glad to be back guys!

WyoAces,

Funny story! Ive hunted blacktails long enough to know it has to be true, especially in that kind of weather.

I got up very early one morning, made a couple sandwiches, loaded my pack for a long hike up the hill, planning to stay all day. It was one of those full moon times early in the season when it's dead still and you're sweating even at 5:00 in the morning.I was finishing the last swig of coffee, wondering if maybe the wife was right about my sanity, when this nice 3x3 stepped up onto the landing I was camped on. I reached into the truck, grabbed my rifle, loaded it and dumped him not 30 yards from the truck.

With blacktails you never know.

Steve

You are correct, the old Black Tail gets very little respect or commentary, however if I had to pick one specie it would definitely be the black tail. I am from Washington and all I here is "there ain't no big bucks left". NO!!! their isn't many people out there willing to put out the effort to get to them. Washington is covered with wilderness areas and roadless areas. If you are willing to put a few miles under your belt, trophy deer are available. I have harvested my fair share of Black Tails however, am still missing the elusive 130 buck. My bigest to date is a 4 x 4 20" wide and 122" Boone and Crockett. I also have 8 others over 100".

Hey Blueoak,
would the Buck Horn happen to be in the middle of a certain little logging town?
Just wonder'n
