How did you californians do this year? I hunted out in D-9 with no success. Many people I knew said it was a bad deer hunting year and hot weather did not help.

I have a hunt coming up Nov. 17th in the foothills of Tehama county. I understand the results on the G1 hunt was spotty.

This has to be the worst year for deer hunting I have ever seen here in D5. After watching the deer here in D5 all year, I decided to not even buy a tag.
Now that the season has ended, I have only heard of 5 bucks being killed, all on private property. One was a real nice 4X5 taken near Camanche damn, 1 little 3X3, 2 forked horns and one more that I didn't find out how big yet. That is very sorry for this area. Last year there were 16 bucks taken within 4 miles of our ranch.

If anyone did any good in D5, I would love to hear about it.
I believe the Lions have finally taken their toll in this area.

I killed a 3 point in b zone during archery. i also was one of the lucky ones to draw an x3b tag. i shot my best buck to date. a 21 inch 3 by 2 that was about 18 tall. it was the best clifornia season i have had. i can always get forkys in the B zone but. i got two three pointers this year.

Those are some nice bucks D13er. Congrats. I hope other hunters did well also.

LAST EDITED ON Nov-06-05 AT 11:20AM (MST)[p]D13er,

Are you getting many bucks to score this year? My buddy who scores up in Humboldt Co. says calls have been very slow compared to last year.

From what I'm hearing, we had a poor season up here in B zones on public land. I went out of state, so all my time/money went to that.

Steve

D-13er, those are some nice looking bucks you got there! That's a dandy buck for A zone. Glad to see you got some young kid's you are bringing up right.

Blueoak, any pictures of your A zone buck? Sounds like a nice deer. Have you heard much on how everyone else did up your way? I used to do some hunting up around your way there for a while, nice country I sure do miss sweating to death chasing those blacktails around. I have alot of fond memories up that away. Any more hunts coming up?

Later, Brushstomper

Nice bucks Bowguy. I have pictures in the camera of A-zone and Nevada have not had time to unload. I got a 29.5 inch 5x3 in Nevada

Ed,

Now that I've been called on it, no, I didn't shoot either one, I was only there for moral support.

Hunted D5 and found some great spots...for tree squirrels and turkeys. I don't know where the bucks are. Last season the fires had the Forest Service closing roads early. Then the snow came early in mid-season and I couldn't even get off a paved road cause all the dirt tracks were gated shut. Wound up the season parked off Mormon Emigrant Road, freezing my tail off in my camper, wishing I had snowshoes.

This year the Forest Service is complying with a court order to restrict motorized traffic on some of the roads. I picked up their map and it showed the road to Bunker Hill was usable. I got up there and it was posted with a marker that said No Vehicle Traffic and warned that violators would be prosecuted. Met a couple of guys up there and no one had seen any bucks. I heard a 4-pt. was taken on opening day on Big Hill. Wasn't taken by me, that's for sure. I've hunted this zone for several years without success. Still, I like getting out and humping the hills. I guess hope springs eternal...even in D5. I call it the Heartbreak Zone. Most of the bucks are tagged on private land in the lower elevations.

Haven't heard anything from the D6 hunters this year. I bet it was just as poor as D5 with no early snow. Alot of hunters scored well last year in D6.

Here are a couple of bucks I got in D-6 Mariposa county. They are not big but this was my very first year hunting and they were two of only 4 bucks seen during over 20 days hunting.

Congrats Ray and way to go! You did better than most. Thanks for posting the pic, very nice, they'll be great eating.

They look like they will be as good eating as milk fed veal. Did you shoot them off there mothers teet. J/K

Thats funny, my father in-law said the exact same thing when he came to help me drag em off the mountain. As stated before, being that it was my first year I dont think it mattered how much I told myself to hold off on the small ones. As soon as I saw those bucks all my will power was gone, nothing could have prepared me for the excitement, and there was nothing I could do to lay off that trigger. I am hoping now that I got those first ones out of the way that next year I will be able to hold out a little longer for a bigger one.

I have a D16 tag with a little more time left on it. Did see a guy driving out past me (I was hunting quail) last weekend with a pretty decent 3x3 strapped to the top of his jeep... but temps were in the mid-80's.

Some buddies that I hunt with occasionally in NorCal shot a medium 3x3 in D6 near Cherry Lake area.

I made that reply because, I got the same one too. As stated I was just joking around

Jingow,
I realized you were kidding, and it was funny. Believe me I have to be able to take a little ribbing, because my father in-law hasnt missed an opportunity to give me a hard time yet. I might have to start my own site "mini muleys"

I have never even got a muley so I can't even join "mini mulley's" I'm allways the last in line!
