Any of you guys know when sitka blacktails normally shed their antlers? I'm hoping to head up to the Queen Charlotte Islands at the beginning of January to hunt sitkas, but want to make sure they'll still be packing antlers before I commit. Thanks for any help.

I heard they shed on the island in Late jan early feb just like most deer. I was gonna head out there for the Christmas break as well but things fell through with the guys i was going to go with. Join huntshoot.com, i had started a thread there a few weeks back and theres quite a few guys from the site that have made the trip to the island.

Thanks Matt. I was supposed to be there December 10-13, but work got in the way. Hoping to head up there December 31-January 4, or January 12-15 now. Sounds like I should be ok with the earlier dates at least. You're welcome to come along if you want! I will check out huntshoot.com like you suggested.

Usually start losing them around the first week of December here. If you shoot them in December here the horns usually fall off either when you shoot them or try to drag them. BCs a bit further south than here though so it makes sense they would keep them longer. Good luck on the hunt.

On Prince of Wales just north of the Charlotte's our Sitka start loosing them in early Dec also. If they havent lost them when their shot they come off.

I would think some forky's and spikes might still have their antlers.
