California hunting

Thinking of moving to the Yreka area.Are the deer and elk tags hard to get.Are they all over the counter or by drawing only?Is hunting NAT.Forests in the area legal? I live in Arizona now have only had a handful of tags over the last 15 years.Anyone in that area or with Cali. hunting knowledge your help would be appreciated.

I have hunted the northern part of california for 25 years. live in southern oregon now email [email protected] with questions. elk once in a lifetime/over the counter national forest hunting/draw in x zones

east of interstate 5 is x-1 which is a draw zone , little further east northeast is c-1 otc if you put in for it by june 2nd ,,,, west of 5 is the b zones otc anytime ,,,, theres deer on both sides , blackies west , muley's and blackie's both on the east side ,,,,,, further east is all draw x-2 3 4 5 ect ect more nat forest than you can ever hunt ,,,,, lots of stuff to hunt up that way ,,,,, and you can hunt all the b's with one tag & all the c's with one tag , the other c zones are from mccloud south to down about chico, to the east ,,, c-2 3 4 ,,,, go to the dfg website and you can check it all out , there should be a link on the front page of this site , upper left hand side ,,, hope this helps ,,,, Jason

Hey Vitalzone, I live just out of Yreka in Scott Valley.
What Tylercreek said is right on the money. Hope you're not moving here just for the hunting, it aint that great. We have a terrible cat problem around here. However if you have the means (pack stock) to get way way back into the wilderness areas (there's 3 of em right here) there's still some good hunting for quality blackies. I'm talking about the B zones, and the tags are OTC, 2 tags per season. Any ? e-mail [email protected]

I also live in the Yreka area. It's no problem to draw a B tag all you have to do is apply. If you want a C tag, put in early and you should draw. The X zones you stand the same chance as the rest of the state. I have never hunted the X zones but have spent a lot of time hunting B & C units. If you move here let us know and maybe we can help you get started.

I live over the hill in the Yreka area, you know how it is with the you Valley Boy's (J.K.). I work with a bunch of guy's who live over there.

Maybe we'll meet up someday. I get over to the big city once in a while. Work for the phone company over here so i get around the west county a ton. look for a white Ford super duty with canopy and a bunch of antennas, that'll be me.
