LAST EDITED ON Oct-11-06 AT 06:53PM (MST)[p]Hey All,
Happy Hunting.

Had a couple good freinds from North Dakota out the last five days for their first Blacktail hunt.
I was hoping to take them into a couple honey holes in the Alps, but trails closed darn fires. We went to plan B. Hunted mostly the low country. With the full moon, wind, and the weather turning hot it got tuff.
I am sure they have respect for Blacktails now.

We hunted our butts off and saw about a dozen bucks. We managed two respectable forkies and one pig.
All in all it was a great time and for a rushed five days it turned out great. The two of them fired 4 shots and harvested three animals, pretty good.

They for sure were not expecting the jump shooting we had to do on these bedded Blacktails. By the third day they started carrying their guns in Pheasant mode. I sure had a great time and cannot waite for next time.

Now I have two weekends to fill my tags and I have not even stepped foot in C-zone.

Enjoy the images. The wide Fork is 23 inches with 4" eye guards.

Parrey -
Thanks for posting the pics. We had a blast out there, and yeh, I have a lot more respect for the Blacktail deer after our trip. If I would've been in Pheasant mode when that toad ran up and over in front of me things would've been different. Nonetheless, that big forky is a true trophy to me and I couldn't be happier. I'm regretting not getting a full body mount of that pig.........they sure are pretty! :)
I can't wait to get together again, I had an absolute blast with you, Ken, and Tom. Great bunch of guys!
Thanks again, it was awesome.

Way to go guys, and especially you, John - North Dakotan gettin' it done in Cali. That's a great buck - awesome brow tines on him.

Thanks NDBadlandsbucks! I'm happier than heck with him, even if he's "only" a 2x2! :) Yeh, great brow tines for a Blacktail too. Now on to whitetails!!! Have you had any luck yet this year?
Good luck to you!

I'd be happy with him too. I haven't hunted deer at all yet this year, thought I might get out early for bow season - just never happened - too busy. Might get out later in the season. For the regular gun season, I've just got a couple doe tags, and my wife has one too. But I did draw a muzzleloader buck tag - So I've got a while to wait 'till I can hunt bucks. How 'bout you?

I also got turned down for my buck tag in 2C, second time in 10 years I've been turned down. :( So I will bowhunt like mad till the guns start blazing away. I hunt MN too so I will do that also. Throw in a couple pheasant hunts then late season bowhunting and this year will be gone before I know it. :) :(

Hey John,

I snapped this at 80 yards this mourning. Wrong side of the fence. This was out of the car window.

these were on the east side. I was looking out the car window at the no trespass sign in line with the bucks.
They were a few miles above were Tom and I will hunt in the mourning. I hope they made it down.

Yes I made sure some less than ethical passer by would not get them.

We have a big barn storm drive planned for the upper property where Dale missed the buck, on Sunday. People dogs everything. I will post what we harvest.
