CBH Certificate Concerns

LAST EDITED ON Jul-10-07 AT 03:12PM (MST)[p]Well, gotta cert from CBH in the mail the other day. It was the first buck I had recorded under CBH. At first glance the cert looked great, but then I read the title of the cert; "California Bowmen Hunters Big Game Competition." A big game "competition"??? Not exactly what I thought I was getting into. I just wanted to record this buck, as a memory of his presence. Why the h*ll would they word it that way? I know a couple of you guys are high up in CBH, and helped me in the past. I think it would be a good idea to change the wording on that cert to "Big game records." Competition makes it seem as though we are competing for a greater prize, through which the life of an animal is the avenue. Not a good thing for the future of bowhunting. Would be a wise move to change that to something more respective of the animals we pursue.

Being one of those CBH guys you are talking about, I'll respond. Yes, today the word "competition" and hunting do not go together very well. Those certificates were designed about 20 years ago when things were a little less sensitive. I don't have an answer as to why that word was used, as CBH does not have a competition with the taking of animals. CBH does have a biannual awards program where the largest animals of the past two years are acknowledged. You're right though. As a matter of fact, we are almost finished with the new certificate design. It will not have the word competition on it and it will be smaller and more frameable, 8 1/2 x 11. When they are finished we'll make an announcement and if you contact me I'll get you a new one for your nice buck. Ed F
