Anybody ever see a deer like this? Terrible pic but he was a little buck and almost black.

Looks like that buck may have some melanistic traits in his gene pool.. I've seen pictures of bucks darker than that. But never alive pictures.

Melanistic is a form of genetic mutation in the color pigments.

Their are the normal color paterns that we see on deer every day but than their are Piebalds, Albinos, and Melanistic.

Piebalds tend to have both brown and white hair. They can some times be pure white. but their nose, eyes and skin tend to be the color of a normal deer.

Albino's have solid white hair with pink eye's, nose, and skin. The key is white and pink. If their is any color on the deer other than pink and white and dirt than it is not a true albino.

Melanistic deer are realy realy dark in color and can be black! Their almost the complete oposite of an albino.

Most of the bucks around here where I live are darker than normal this year. The does are really tan colored and the bucks are really dark. Unusal year to say the least.

I've only seen two black(melanistic)deer before and both were muleys near Cedarville, CA. This blacktail was in Marin Co.

We saw on heck of a buck about 5 years ago in the Chester area. Both my hunting partner and I got long shots at him on two different occasions but didn't connect. He was absolutely beautiful.. Never seen a buck like that one before. Talked to some other hunters that saw the same buck that trip when he ran across a logging road but they couldn't get on him either. I thought I was seeing things when I spotted him.. Really unique deer and he had a nice set of antlers.
