I would think Bomberblackies among others might be able to point you in the right direction. I myself live in the transition zone where they and mulies cross, probably not what you'd want. Very much of North Western Kali is Public, huntable, and has the kind. You're doing the right thing though by asking around. I've killed many but have yet to get a real super trophy. Plenty of company out there, Good luck!

You may be limited as far as packers go. I personally don't know of any for this part of California. Backpacking is the way to go. Trinity Alps wilderness would be my suggestion. Are you using a bow or gun? Try to avoid the major trails and lakes, too many people. Get a Trinity Alps Forest Map to find a trail and then get topo maps.

I like post #3. Personally I would hunt the South half of the Trinity Alps. There is some steep rugged country in there but with a little luck you should have a chance. Public land blacktails are getting harder every year, IMO.
