I thought it was a pretty good year overall. In Washington the second weekend was red hot when we had a high wind storm in the Grays Harbor and Thurston area. I seen a couple nice bucks that weekend. I wanted to hold out for the rut though and past. Then the weather changed and the last week was blue skies and hard hunting. I hiked up into a wilderness area and spanked a pretty nice buck. One heck of a pack out though.

LAST EDITED ON Jan-23-08 AT 10:07PM (MST)[p]I tagged out in Washington also, shot a pretty nice buck in the late archery hunt in the Gifford Pinchot in Lewis County. kind of unique buck, a 4 x 2?

Sorry for posting these pics again, but us Washington hunters don't get much press.

Laying on a gravel bar after fishing him out of the river he died in.

Thats a good buck, I would be proud of that one. What did he try to swim away, it don't look like he made it far.

When he died he slid down the hill and off about a 30 ft cliff into the river. I had a he!! of a time getting down to him, of course he floated to the far side so I had to wade across to get him with water up to the jewels. Oh and did I say it was snowing, brrrrrrrr.

I bet that was COLD!!!!!! Well it was an experience you will never forget and a story you will tell for years. In the end when you made it back to the truck I bet you were in 7th heaven and feeling pretty good.

Good job on an awesome hunt.

Nice buck. I had one fall into a creek bed in about 8 feet of water once. What a mess. It was about 85 degrees out though.

Nothing for me this year. I bought a new bow and only got to hunt 1/2 day during archery season and then only got to hunt the last day of rifle season. I had a good antelope hunt in Wyoming though.

LAST EDITED ON Jan-28-08 AT 10:50AM (MST)[p]We had a great year, finally got some weather. I just wish I could have drawn a C tag, the first year I don't draw one and we get some really good weather. Oh well that's the way the ball bounces. We had to buy an over the counter Oregon tag to get some extra hunting in and that worked out pretty well for us. We saw a lot and learned a lot, which to us is more important then anything else.

Yep,sometimes it takes a couple seasons to learn an area. Thats why scouting is so important when its possible. I have spent seasons in the past just exploring new area and by the end of the season I had a pretty good idea were to find a buck. But with that said I love to hunt and just enjoy getting out.

I tagged my best blacktail ever, washington modfire general in a hike in area, picture is on "new photos". Ended up as the SCI #152 Columbian all time, should be posted next publication.
