dissapointment

After hunting my tail off all season almost every day, I finally found a buck worth hunting on the 3rd to the last day of the season, a fog bank rolls in and finalizes the season for me.

I found what I consider a true 170 class blacktail cross buck on Wednesday nite, only to return on Thursday and Friday to find a fog bank that wouldn't burn off!

I'm 51 now and it hurts to get into the high country these days, not to mention at the end of the day pop some advil and a glass of wine, not whine.

I always hear guys on here sayin it's not the kill but the hunt, i geuss i'm a sore loser.

never planned on going out of state this year cause of the economy, but man how will i be able to wait till next year!...

I've been on the rag all day!

i feel your pain man i had my daughter on a 170+ buck on her x-4 hunt had him at 325 yrds. and she couldnt see him. he stood there broadside for probably 3 min looking at us. oh well she got a 18 inch 4x4 on the last day with about 10 min. of light left. i only got to hunt 1 day of A season for myself and 0 days of B season. i comitted this year to my daughter she got two bucks and i got one on my only day in the field for myself

good deal, that should be gratifying though, i had a chance at a couple dinks, but i was waiting for a bigun.

Sorry to hear that, because of weather, you weren't able to close the deal on that big buck Manny. At least you have the comfort of knowing that you helped me in getting a pretty darn decent buck.

I know what you mean about getting into the high country at our age. Some of the younger guys take it for granted in their walking ability and judge those that have a hard or getting harder time getting into the back country as lazy. i'll wager that even now they thinking about how good a shape they're in, many couldn't hold a candle to either of us back 30 years ago.

We all get older, some get banged up. It's something they should think about while advising all the time to close off access to walk, pack, or horseback only. Some areas are all ready set aside and i'll agree with that but many want everything to have such limited access...until they get hurt or up in age a bit. Happens to most of us yet some only think for themselves.

hey joey'

your right man, my attitude has changed a great deal after gettin older, my heart in it all the way, but my knees have a different mind.....

Manny, I always say, the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak.:) I turned 60 last month. Now I slow down and enjoy the little things more. No complaints.

Stop into Taylors in Cave Junction and buy some of their killer beef jerky, you'll feel better!

Sorry to hear about mother nature messing up the close. I had her wipe my entire elk hunt out in 05', sometimes she gets us, we know she will get us sooner or later, but it still stinks. Kudos to you getting into the high country and hunting hard! I am 42 and it ain't as easy as 38, so know 45 and so on will be tougher, but there is no substitute for experience, absolutely none, and I know your next hunts will be better. I have never posted in this section before, but really enjoyed several of the threads. Heading out to NM on 9/11 and hunting the toughest unit in the state, unit 53, so mother nature may spank us too...............10-12k in elevation, anything can happen.............will give it our best shot and nothing wrong hating to loose either!

Talk with you boys later.
