D5 Blacktail Buck

Here is a nice buck a saw yesterday off of 88 around the 4000 foot level. Pretty good growth for this time of the year. Hope he does not get hit on the hiway.

Thats a nice buck. Its funny how much varriance there is in the bucks on the west slope. I've hunted D-5/6 for years and some look pure blacktail, while others have stronger muley looks.

Yeah, it is funny to see all the cross type deer. I've been photoing these bucks in this area for four years now and it seems most look pretty much like blacktails. Some have gotten very large bodied also. These big guys stay at lower elevations year round mostly on private property. Two years ago, during the rut, two Muley type bucks showed up that were real monsters for this area so I know the genes are in the herd. Those were just two that I saw, I'm sure there are more around.

I've posted this buck before, but he is one of my favorites and really shows off what a big old Blacktail should look like.

Here are two more bucks I was able to get on this last week. Bow season opens this weekend and these guys are going to get real spooky and hard to photo. Moose
